CityVille-New game by Zynga on Facebook

Zynga, the makers of Farmville is launching a new game, CityVille.  People have to make their cities and have fun with it. The new thing here is that this new game is being launched internationally that is it is launched in 5 languages (English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish).

This will be available in Beta version now, and improvements will be made based on the bugs etc. Although this game is not released, yet 16,865+ people have already liked it. Players will be allowed to build structures, roads, schools, start business and moreover they will be able to export and import the stuffs from other cities. 🙂 This is a good way to learn commerce what say?

Zynga’s Farmville recently lost its top social application position. With this new game they are hoping to gain the top position again. Well, I cannot be sure for that because some time ago there was another game released by Playdom named Social City. It did break some records and gained popularity but very soon just extinguished. How different is this new game than the last one? Lets see how it turns out ?

Phrases-the top social application on Facebook

From past one year that is August 2009 Farmville is considered to be the top social game’s application. Anyone using Facebook surely knows what is it all about and many users login to Facebook everyday just to play games. Well, the news is that Farmville is no longer the top application any more. :O

Phrases is gaining popularity these days. Here you can create your own application to show a phrase at random to your users! It asks you to enter your email id, application name etc and publish to wall. Your friends will click on the link published on their wall and they can see what you want to show them. Its better to publish your link like this than publish on wall. 🙂

Facebook removes Google contact import facility

Did anyone notice anything different or new this morning? Well, when I logged into my Facebook account and tried to add some of my Orkut friends, I could not do so.

Facebook has removed all the mention of Google’s Gmail service from its “Find your Friends” feature. Google was angry when Facebook allowed users to find new friends based on one’s contact listing within a Gmail account, but Facebook  didn’t allow the procedure to go in reverse. In response to which Google denied Facebook to get information from it or from the contacts.

If you try to add friends from “Other email Service “link you will get a message saying “Everyone on this contact list is already on Facebook or has already been invited”, as shown below.

Gmail-Facebook

I think Google and Facebook are taking all this too long. Why not accept each other as an individual and try managing both the social networks together. But as Facebook has won the battle of social networks, it’s just not ready to consider any other website as a social networking website. Lets see what happens next? Will Gmail like MySpace allow people to login with their Facebook ID’s and fully surrender or it will come up with something new against Facebook. Drop in your comments below.

Games notification relocated on Facebook

Do you play games on Facebook? If you do, then you must be aware of the game requests shift, recently. To cut the clutter and make it more clear all the game invites and requests were shifted to the left hand side where the applications are being displayed. But that reduced the amount of players on Facebook.

Due to this, Facebook developers have come up with a plan. Now on the right hand side there will be text messages telling about the game requests. According to Facebook, the requests were more clickable when they were placed on the right hand side.

game-requests

Now when a new game request arrives, you can see a text alert on the right and the counter of game requests will increase on the left hand side. When you click on the alerts you will get a pop up sending you to the original position of the game requests. Clicking on the alerts will result into nothing. Some users may get frustrated because nothing opens when you click that alert. Facebook will now allow Open Graph objects with less than 10,000 Likes to have their type changed without resetting their Like count.

Hope you all will not be confused on seeing this new feature of Facebook. If you notice any other changes do share it with me through your comments.

Use your Facebook ID to login to MySpace

Today when I logged in to my computer I just thought of checking out MySpace as in my last post I have mentioned about the new MySpace. To much of my surprise I found out that the new MySpace has a Facebook login button.

On further Googling a bit, I came down to a result that MySpace has totally surrendered to Facebook now. I guess MySpace has finally putting up his hands and saying I give up. Facebook is so far ahead of MySpace that, My Space has decided that it does not want to be a social network. What more is that it will now allow people to login to MySpace with Facebook Ids.

Any Facebook user, can login to MySpace using his Facebook id and password. Very soon Facebook users will be able to display their status updates on MySpace. MySpace also plans that whatever links people Like on MySpace will be shared on Facebook too.  That will make people enjoy MySpace as well as stick with Facebook. 😉

Facebook-MySpace

The question is whether by doing this MySpace will regain its lost position or just let Facebookers have more freedom and enjoy. The thing is even if Facebook is good, it gives lots of options and everything should it be made to rule the world? Don’t you think there should be some space left for other social networking sites? I think other sites should present themselves in a different way than just being a social network. Share your views about this in the comments below.

What else it does ?

Not only this will block adds on your Facebook profile, it blocks adds all over the internet. You can disable Addblock Plus on some specific website. You can choose to block adds on a specific website. In short there are alot of things you can block or unblock. 🙂

I like this add on as it lets me block the only irritating feature of internet. 🙂 There are other such add ons also but I like this one. Feel free to share your views on this through the comments.

Facebook has a total win over MySpace

Although Facebook had won the battle of social networks long back but now it is official. Recently Telegraph posted that My Space has surrendered in to the battle of social networks. It has experienced loss of its users to almost half, that is to 3.3 million in July earlier this year.

MySpace was released back in 2003 and was the best social networking portal. With the rise of Facebook in 2008, MySpace started loosing its place. MySpace is now expecting to get back its position by being a social media destination. Everything including the logo is changed in MySpace.Smile MySpace is concentrating on being the leading social music destination for 13-35 year olds.

Why use MySpace?

Well if you are someone who loves music and bands then you should login to MySpace. You can search for your favorite music online, there will be links of different websites and you can go to different places and get it. Whereas, MySpace lets you search for music in a better way.

Why use Facebook!

Well if you are following this blog then I am pretty sure that you love Facebook and its awesome features.

Do you think MySpace will be able to gain its lost position? Will MySpace give any competition to other music destination sites? Share your views through the comments below.

Jimmy Kimmel declares today is Unfriend Day on Facebook

According to Jimmy Kimmel, a popular American TV host , 17 November which is today, is Facebook Unfriend Day. Kimmel is persuading people to remove friends on Facebook whom they might not have even met.

National Unfriend Day

Credit

“National Unfriend Day (NUD) is the international day when all Facebook users shall protect the sacred nature of Friendship by cutting out any ‘friend fat’ on their pages occupied by people who are not truly their friends”,  said Jimmy Kimmel Live’s website. The best thing is although he is a popular TV host, he is using Facebook for spreading awareness.

When you get a friend request what is the first thing you think? Well, do I know this person? Should I add him in my friend list and give him all kind of access to my profile ? Many times the answer is no but sometimes its like ‘Hey, I can add this person to increase my network and just tweak my privacy settings so that he cannot view the details.’

He believes that Facebook is cheapening the meaning of friendship by having so many friends. No body has 1000 friends in real life. Moreover, we do not feel so left out or alone on festival times. We have Facebook pages, Games and applications celebrating it all with us. In a recent tweet by Facebook, they have asked people to write about their upcoming holiday plans and re union. You need to give your name and plan for the event and the best plan will be displayed on Facebook page. Is it a good or a bad thing? What appeals to you more celebrating festivals on Facebook or in reality with your friends and family?

The Facebook Page dedicated to NUD has 5225 Likes and increasing. Check out the status messages posted by Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Facebook page. Facebook has surely given us freedom to share our lives on line but do you think that is required? What about the real time spent on friends, the real conversation? Are we getting too lost in Social networking provided by Facebook? Do you really need to add as many people in your friend list? People you have never met or known ? How many of you are going to take this seriously as a unfriend day? How much of ‘Friend fat’ are your going to remove? Share it with me through the comments below.

It’s official! Facebook has Email

Facebook email is out. 🙂 Mark Zuckerberg introduced Facebook Messages which will allow you to email, chat, SMS and Facebook messages all in one window. All 500 million Facebook users are free to use this service. They just need to request for the invitation. 🙂

Techcrunch in 2007 reported that Gmail, Yahoo mail and Live Hotmail have approximately 51m, 250m and 228m users. Though the statistics would have changed but Facebook alone has 500m users worldwide. If only 70 % among them start using Facebook, it will over take the number of email users. The number will be more than all Gmail,Yahoo and Live Hotmail.

How to activate Facebook Messages?

  • Go to the Facebook Message page.
  • Request for an invitation.
  • Any friend can invite you if  she is using this new service.

I have requested for Facebook Messages invitation, but I have not received any updates. So what are your views on Facebook Messages? Do you think it will be a Gmail killer? Share your views with me through the comments. 🙂

Will we get email from Facebook

If we trust on rumors and Twitter then something big is going to happen today evening (read Gmail killer 😉 ). We have heard that Facebook is going to have an email service of its own. That is something like abc@facebook.com or a total new email client.

Credit

It could be just a rumor like the Facebook phone one but who knows it may be true. Facebook people refuse to give us any idea about what it exactly is. If it comes out to be a new Facebook email client then I think people will be more than excited to use it and if this is not then too Facebook has enough publicity! 🙂

Why do I think it will be a great idea?

  • Considering how many people use Facebook, imagine all those 500 million users switching to Facebook.com. Even if they do not like it that much but just for one time they all will try.
  • Based on the number of Likes, if Facebook mail tries to  prioritize the mail it will give a better result than Gmail priority inbox.

The only doubt I have is whether this service will be provided to Facebook employees only or to everyone using Facebook. This has happened earlier also that any new service that Facebook launches is just given to some of their members or in US. I wish this time it should be given to all at once. Whereas if Facebook decides to share the email with only employees then that will not be so good. 🙁

Right now I am waiting for the real event to happen at San Francisco and know what exactly Facebook is up to. 🙂 I will soon be updating here about it. Till then keep you Twitter and Facebook open for any hint. 😀
