Answers: How TrackBack Works!

Well even after spending around 1 year on blogger (well I joined blogsphere in feb 2006) this linking bussiness was not so clear to me! So I Googled and found a really great post explaining this in deatail. Its by Michael August Pusateri!

Details of Google’s Latest Security Hole which resulted into session hijacking!

Tony Ruscoe exposed another google security bug! This was used for session hijacking!

As Philipp Lenssen Says,

Tony’s not a malicious hacker of course (in fact, the first thing he did was inform Google Security!), but he found a loophole in a new feature Google rolled out recently. Using a proof of concept script targeting this loophole “ which I can detail once it’s fixed “, all Tony needed to do was make a user who’s logged into their Google Account visit a page of his, which happened to be on a trustworthy google.com sub-domain. I visited Tony’s page, which sent my Google cookies to Tony

Well what could Tony did with these cookies??? Here is a (incomplete) list…

  • Get into my Google Docs & Spreadsheets application and read and modify documents I saved there
  • Read subjects from my Gmail inbox, as well as the first few words of these emails, by adding a Gmail module to the Google Personalized Homepage
  • View my Google Accounts page
  • Enter my Google Reader
  • Read my private Google Notebook
  • View my complete Google search history (for as long as I had the search history feature enabled in Google)

Tony phrased it on his proof of concept page, Think yourself lucky that I wasn’t that evil!

Well Tony was not evil n thats for sure. The bug is also fixed now without causing any damage!

Have long name in ur orkut profile!

Unfortunately, your original account may in no way be able to have a long name in your profile.The only solution to this is to create a new account and then using a few scripts you can use long names in profiles(Up to 200 letters)

Orkut Buyukkokten, Creator of Orkut, Violating Orkut ToS!

Yep… I found his second profile on orkut!
Well before going ahead lemme clear out base for my claim…

#Base:
On orkut community standard page, under Account Restrictions in line 11, it is written that…

“Only one account can be created for each person.”

Now…

#Proof:
1. Here is link to Orkut Buyukkokten’s orkut profile!
2. Now I came across another profile named Orkut Guy! This one seems to be official orkut helper and also this profile is Orkut certified!

3. Now check very first scrap in Orkut Guys Scrapbook which is by Adam says

“Admin. What a strange last name. But easier to spell and pronounced than Buyukkokten.”

4. Now in above line Admin may be pointing to Orkut Administartor Orkut Buyukkokten’s. Well there is more in that single line. What about last name field? Its Guy in this case and Adam also says its better than Buyukkokten.

5. Another point to be noted is about Adam – who is again orkut certified guy!

6. Now only doubt left about point 1, as the profile is not orkut certified. Well there is another trick to know permanant orkut membership number!

Truth about Orkut-Medals!

In last few weeks I have seen lots of fuss about orkut medals and some stupid GreaseMonkey Scripts to put orkut medal on ur profile! Well such scripts do put orkut medal on ur profile but as they are client-side scripts only U (and U) can see those medals!

I cleared out this point earlier to few of my friends on orkut, then again new rumor spread-off saying Orkut Medal indicates Royal Membership which is paid-subscription! Wel as long as Google is running orkut, I am sure that orkut wil never become paid service! Thats what Google’s “Don’t Be Evil!” Motto says!

Then what is truth and where it is! Wel Following is truth from orkut help …

Why are some people “orkut-certified”?The ‘orkut-certified’ symbol helps you identify which profiles are real. When you see that a profile has been ‘orkut-certified,’ you can be confident that we’ve verified the user’s identity and ensured that they’re following our Community Standards.

These symbols are issued by the orkut team on an as-needed basis and are not added to profiles upon request.

Know Your Orkut Membership Number !

If u ever wondered about ur uid i.e. user ID on orkut then don’t check out uid part of ur orkut profile link!

e.g.: in following link…

uid=8047825869783710708 does not indicate my membership no. or registration no. on orkut!

Then how to know ur real Orkut Membership Number??? Wel Gaurav gotta answer already!

#Trick:

1. Right click on your profile’s photo or any other photo from album/scrapbook, etc.

2. Select for ‘save image as’ option.

3. The default name number for your photo is ur actual Orkut Membership Number!.

4. That’s the orkut membership no.

#Proof 1:
All images by a single user have same name number!

#Proof 2:
U can verify this with first 5 member of orkut!

  2. Joe Sriver

  4. Bay-Wei Chang

#Proof 3:
