500,000 Facebook users against new ‘News Feed’ in just two days

Just two days back, Facebook launched it’s new ‘News Feed’ consisting of a ‘Live Feed’ too but just as most of the previous changes in Facebook’s design, this is not liked by most of the Facebook users too. That’s why many Facebook users are protesting against it and the word ‘many’ here represents  500,000 Facebook users who just joined the group PLEASE GIVE US OUR OLD NEWS FEED BACK! within two days and this group is still expanding. Earlier it was the Facebook’s new theme which wasn’t liked by the users.

Why people hates new Facebook ‘News Feed’?

People are tweeting, updating facebook statuses, joining groups, making pages against the neww feed….But the thing comes here is why people hate this new ‘News Feed’. We have few answers:

  1. The confusing News Feed and Live Feed, users are still not getting what it is and this new feature makes Facebook even more confusing. (Solution: what is the difference between news feed and live feed in facebook)
  2. Live feed is not that much live, people are still getting older updates on their ‘Live Feed’ which makes it uninteresting.
  3. Flooded ‘Live Feed’, as ‘Live Feed’ is now showing even a single update of your friends, it seems like someone is spamming the Facebook’s feed using an automated computer.
  4. Dull ‘News Feed’, the other option rather ‘Live Feed’ is your ‘News Feed’ which is quite boring now as it shows only that updates which were liked or commented by somebody else. That’s why it got hardly updated and we see only 2-3 average new posts per hour.
  5. Facebook is still not 100% up, as facebook was under maintenance for most of the users and for some it’s still under maintenance, people aren’t able to see the new ‘News Feed’ properly.

So what do you think about the new news feed????

Facebook’s quick action, no more reconnecting requests for dead friends

After the launch of Facebook Reconnecting feature, there were thousands of Tweets on Twitter (click here to see) regarding Facebook suggestion of “reconnect with friends” as it was recommending people to reconnect even with those people who are no more. 🙁 But within two days of the launch of this feature, they have fixed this with a very good alternative of it.

Now you can put the profiles of your friends or relatives in “Memorized” profiles who are no longer with you. By putting a profile into “Memorized” you will no longer be able to see their profiles in suggestions or reconnecting sections. To put anybody in “Memorized” profiles, use this contact form and fill the required information.

If someone’s profile is listed as “Memorized”, his profile will no longer can be found on search results and only confirmed friends will be able to view his profile and write on his wall as remembrance.

This update on Facebook’s official blog was written by Max Kelly who has a real life experience of his colleague’s death. He added that,

As time passes, the sting of losing someone you care about also fades but it never goes away. I still visit my friend’s memorialized profile to remember the good times we had and share them with our mutual friends.

A new limitation of creating a page on Facebook

Just few hours back, we wrote about the new Facebook usernames for Pages. If you read that post, you must have noticed one thing that the Facebook was not allowing us to use the username “FacebooKnol”. After searching for sometime, I finally got the reason for it.

Nowadays Facebook is quite serious about the copyright cases specially for it’s pages. Doesn’t matter if you are using the name of a celeb in your profile name or you are using a name of an organisation in your profile, Facebook either won’t allow you to do so or it will disable your profile/page later as it’s against their Terms of Use.(Facebook terms)

For an instance, I was creating a page “Sharing random stuff on Facebook and Twitter” but I didn’t get a permission from Facebook to create this page, neither I was able to create a page “Sharing random stuff on Facebook”. However I easily created a page called “Share random stuff on Twitter” 😉

It clearly means that from now, you won’t be able to use the keyword “Facebook” in a page. i.e neither in the username not anywhere in the name of that particular page.

How to setup a username for your Facebook pages

After the launch of usernames for Facebook Profiles, Facebook is all set to allot usernames to Facebook pages too. Facebook pages, one of the most important part of Facebook can now be found directly by their name in the custom link. For example the actually link of our Page FacebooKnol on Facebook is,

http://www.facebook.com/pages/FacebooKnol/152086414624

By using new Facebook usernames for pages we can shorten this link to simply,

http://www.facebook.com/FbKnol

(Unfortunately http://www.facebook.com/FacebooKnol wasn’t available)

Which looks professional and easy to write too as you don’t have to remember the whole id (152086414624 in this case). But please note that this option is available for Facebook Page administrators only which is quite obvious too.

SETUP:

  • Go to the Facebook’s username page here (new window).
  • Click “Set a username for your Pages”.

  • From the list of Facebook Pages created by you, select the desired Page.

  • Now type the username that you wish to set and select availability.

Terms and Conditions for a username (for pages only):

The Terms and Conditions for selecting a username for Facebook Pages are as follows,

Several things for you to remember:

  • You can’t change the username of that particular page once you set it.
  • You can’t transfer the ownership of a username to another party.
  • You can’t violate anyone elses trademark rights.
  • If you are acquiring a username to sell it in the future (squatting), you will lose it.
  • Usernames may be reclaimed for other unauthorized usages.

So choose a username for your page before anybody else takes it as usernames are totally on the first come first serve basis.

For any help either drop a comment below or visit Official Usernames Page of Facebook.

Facebook launches new Face-Lifted Facebook Groups

Facebook groups, which were not that much popular on Facebook just because of their own Facebook pages are now getting better. Recently Facebook did a major change in their groups and now they are even better than Facebook pages.

The major thing or better we say the best thing they have changed is that now the updates from Facebook groups will be directly shown to friends homepage which is a very cool feature. It’s because everybody on Facebook loves to write anything so that people can interact with it and for maximum interaction, there should be maximum exposure.

Also now the updates will be delivered to the message box of people who have joined the group doesn’t matter if the total number of member of that group is more than a million.

But then the question arise that what’s the difference between a Facebook group and a Facebook page. Facebook engineer describes it as,

Keep in mind that while Groups and Pages now look the same, they still serve different purposes. Groups are for fostering member-to-member collaboration, while Pages remain the best way to broadcast messages to your fans if you are a business, organization, public figure or other entity.

In easy words, you can distinguish both of them as you become a fan of a page and you joins a group.

What’s new?

  • Easy interaction by direct posting to news feeds.
  • More options of communication.
  • Profile look.
  • Group=Page with an option of even organising.
  • Separate albums.
  • Easy to access and clean design.

Suggesting Friends for Friend is Facebook’s new Suggestion

Well the topic of this post is quite confusing just like Facebook itself 😛

This post is a recent update rom Facebook. Now your friends who recently joined Facebook will be shown in your ‘Suggestions’ where we generally see ‘People We May Know’ or ‘Become a Fan’.

These suggestion will ask you to suggest new friends for your friends which have either recently joined Facebook or having very less number of friends. Now only friend suggestions but also Facebook is highlighting the profiles of recently joined people so that you can write on their wall.

Well apart from “Suggest friends for him” and “Write on her wall” you can also see a suggestion where you can suggest a ‘profile picture’ for your friend 😀

You can click on “Suggest a Profile Picture” on your homepage and upload a picture which you want your friend to use it as his/her profile picture. It’s quite weird to suggest a profile picture to your friend but it’s quite interesting too as it is not generally used by other social networking sites.

Refreshed news feed look: New Facebook Homepage

Once again, Facebook made a major change in their homepage. Yes now the ‘News Feed’ tab for your homepage is totally different from the previous one. Now the Facebook’s homepage is separated into two different news feeds. One is the ‘News Feed’ and other one is the ‘Live Feed’

Basically the older ‘News Feed’ is now the combination of new ‘News Feed’ and ‘Live Feed’

What are ‘News Feed’ and ‘Live Feed’?

‘News Feed’ is the previous one day news feeds from your friends which are listed as interesting sorted as newest at the top basis. The term ‘interesting’ here means a post which is liked or commented by other Facebook users.

‘Live Feed’ is actually everything. Each and every update of your friend will be shown in this tab in real-time. If you have so many friends on Facebook then you can also select some limited number of friends. To select friends for selective updates’ click on ‘Edit Options’ at the bottom of your news feed.

In ‘Live Feed’, not only the status updates and photos from your friends will be shown, but also you can see the recently added friends of your friends or even groups joined by others. It simply means that from now, there will be no highlights on the right hand side of your homepage. These highlights are now included in the ‘News Feed’.

To switch between ‘News Feed’ and ‘Live Feed’ see the option given above your status update bar.

Obviously it’s a nice feature by Facebook but as usual, each nice feature by Facebook makes it more confusing to use.

UPDATE: Out of 2000 people who commented on this update, around 1800 people disliked this new feature.

Tell us what do you think about the new look.

Facebook finally added the Indian National Flag in Farm Ville

After a one month long protest against one of the most popular Facebook application ‘Farm Ville‘ for the addition of Tricolour National Flag of India in it, the developer of ‘Farm Ville‘ application Zynga has agreed to add the National Flag in it. The protest was actually started by Pritam Bijlani called ‘Cause’ which got a boost up by Times of India report on it, and finally it worked.

Farm Ville is an online Facebook application cum game in which users can develop their farms. These were divided into territories with name and Flag of that particular county.Even the name of India was also there but Indian flag was missing earlier.

The main reason behind the protest is that even the flag of some lesser populated countries were available, yes lesser populated, even lesser than the total internet users of India. 😀

Well now you all can enjoy you this foreign application/game more with some Desi feeling. 😉
