Google’s G-Drive Initiative to Act as a Substitute to your Hard Disk!

gdrive There were a lot of rumors and hype about the launch of an online storage service by Google called G-Drive.  And according to some popular tech blogs, this service may soon go live.

The most advantageous thing about Google’s G-drive initiative would be, it can store all the data of your PC on the internet. And not only that, if instructed it will keep syncing all the data of the web and your PC on a periodical basis. Another advantage of such a service would be, a user having multiple computer systems can have all their datas on all computers as G-drive will reportedly support automatic synchronization of files between the Google server and all the computer system having G-drive installed in it!

Personally speaking, I am desperately waiting for such a wonderful service by Google that would replace world wide web as my data storage device. 🙂 Hope the rumor about launch of G-drive comes true as soon as possible.

As Gmail, infact Google, has a practice of launching all its new products and experimental services under ‘labs’ tags, this time too Gmail has followed this way.

To start using this new lab feature, you need to enable ‘Offline Gmail’ option in Gmail Settings-> Labs tab. You will then need to install gears (if you don’t have it) and then you can start using Offline Gmail option. This feature is yet to be rolled out for every Gmail user (even mine) so don’t worry, soon the feature will be rolled on your profile too. 🙂 As this feature is yet to be rolled on to my account too, so I cannot say you much about it. I will try reviewing this good feature once I practically try it out. Till then keep viewing this official video by Gmail.

Google to Close Video Service Shortly

google Video logo Recently Google closed down many of its services including Jaiku, Mashup Editor, Google Notebook and other Google products, and now Google Video Blog has come up with an announcement, that it will shortly close down its video services too. Google adds that, though the existing videos will not be deleted and will remain as it is, but they would not entertain any further uploads of videos after a few days. Here Google Video is not to be confused with YouTube that Google brought into its banner sometime in October 2006.

In its Official video blog, Google team says:

In a few months, we will discontinue support for uploads to Google Video. Don’t worry, we’re not removing any content hosted on Google Video — this just means you will no longer be able to upload new content to the service.

So, people who have already uploaded their videos (including me) need not panic seeing these bad news by Google as existing videos will be left as it is. But new uploaders need to search for some alternatives. And I think YouTube is the best alternative available!
