Google Showing AdSense Ads in Image Search Results Permanently!

Sometime back I came across few stories suggesting Google displaying AdSense ads in their popular image search results. Many bloggers captured screenshots of AdSense ads being served in Google Image search results last year. Even I saw AdSense ads sometimes back but today almost every image search I made displayed AdSense ads.

Another thing I have noticed for most of the queries ads are being displayed on page 1 of image search result only. Also ads are shown only at the top (may be considering width of my widescreen monitor! :P)

Anyway below are some screenshots of Google image Search for some top queries. It looks like AdSense for Image search results have less takers as only one ad slot out of three/four is filled most of the time.

New in Gmail Labs: Send & Archive

Yesterday I was wondering about the launch of any new features in Gmail and other Google products. Since long time, Gmail did not come up with any new features. But this morning when I started reading my feeds, I saw a feed item explaining about the launch of a new labs service “Send & Archive”.

You can clearly see on the image above on what’s the concept behind this new feature “Send & Archive” is. Soon after replying to any mails, most of the Gmail users have a habit of archiving mails instead of deleting them. As such, this new button (as seen on the image) will help you to archive mails as soon you reply to them. All you need to do is use ‘Send & Archive’ button instead of just ‘Send’.

To activate this feature, go to Settings->Labs->Send & Archive and enable it.

Google Search made easy with Gog.Is

You must be wondering what would be better and alternative way of making Google search, when the home page of Google itself has got such a simple and user friendly interface. The service I am talking about is Gog.Is that helps you get Google search results as soon you enter on your address bar http://www.gog.is/you-search-term. For example if I wish to make a Google Search for the entry “DevilsWorkshop” then I can directly enter “http://www.gog.is/devilsworkshop” and I would get the similar page that would have been appeared while searching in Google for the term ‘DevilsWorkshop’.

You must be thinking what exactly is the use of such services? After all you need to type such a long URL on the address bar. If you remember about the post “Let Me Google that for you” which is useful for making Google search for your buddies.. Similarly, Gog.Is is a similar service that would help you to locate a Google entry easily while having chat with your buddies.

The home page of Gog.Is explains better of what exactly it can do:

Ever felt like slapping someone with a Google search, while in an IM conversation, chatrooms, or on Twitter? simply write http://gog.is and put the keywords in the url, like this: http://gog.is/clerks. This will redirect them to the Google search for clerks.

<

Google’s New Favicon Inspired from AVG ?

Today, I was surprised to see the new favicon on google and its related sites. I knew someone would have surely made an entry on Devil’s workshop and Deepak did mentioned it here. But the new image was so familiar to me and later I found out it was like that of AVG antivirus logo. Actually, Google was inspired for the new logo by a design submitted by André Resende, a computer science undergraduate student at the University of Campinas in Brazil. But I think this what would have actually happened.

AVG favicon + 90 degree turn + Old favicon + Some smudging -> New favicon

Sorry, I’m very poor at photoshop 🙂

Again Google Revamped its Favicon

If you are following Google for a year, you must be knowing Google changed its favicon sometime in June last year, and now, again Google has come up with a new good and sleek favicon.

This morning, when I opened Gmail homepage, I was surprised to see a colorful favicon instead and was wondering whether I was being redirected to some fake or phishing site.  But even after refreshing and reopening, the page continued to show up the new favicon as you can see on the image. It was later, that I was confirmed about the change of logo when I read this official post. The blog says they considered changing favicon, because last time when the favicon was changed, many users complained that it was too “ugly”. In their words:

Google changed its favicon last year and many people said that the new one was ugly. Probably this the reason why Google decided to use another favicon starting from today. The new favicon uses all the colors from Google’s logo, while keeping the same lowercase "g".

In this new favicon, all the colors present in Google’s logo are being used up and seems to be better than the previous one. Hope this move by Google be appreciated by all its lovers. 🙂

Skype for Mac Released!

As I said earlier, more and more software developers are now targeting Mac users to increase their area for operation. If you remember, recently Utorrent was launched for Mac users followed by Picasa and now its time for Skype. For those who don’t know what Skype is, it is said to be the best VOIP tool used for making calls via Internet.

Well, I personally know people who prefer using Windows OS (specially XP) because it has got a huge collection of softwares and applications, to such peoples I would now say that its time for you to reconsider choosing Windows OS over Mac or Linux. 🙂

War Initiated between India & Pak in Cyber Space?

Recently after attacks in Mumbai there were hot discussions going on between India and Pakistan, and from sources it was revealed that Pakistani hackers defaced a lot of Indian websites, blogs and even Orkut communities.

Also there were a lot of complains in Orkut Help Group regarding, hacking of a famous Orkut Community “Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Fan Club” having approximately 200 Thousand members.

As per an article on Thaindian:

The community group holds significance for the orkut members, as it is probably the biggest platform for the young fans of former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam. And, the most of the members of this community write in it with deep affection and respect for their ideal in life. There are 207,249 members in this group.

The hackers have renamed the community originally named Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as Indian and now using it as a platform for malicious and objectionable content.

Though, the name of the community has been restored to what it was, and the homepage of the community reads “We have got control back from Pakistani hands” still many Orkut experts suspect that the Community is still with Pakistanis disguised as Indians..

So the question is, why those unethical Pakistani hackers are targeting more and more Indian websites, blogs, Orkut communities and at the top of it eminent Indian personalities?

Has war being initiated between India and Pakistan in the cyber space?

Do let us know what do you think!!

Google Released Chrome 2.0 Pre-Beta

Recently Google’s final version of Chrome 1.0 was released and now, Google is planning to come out with some other new and improved features and hence it has just announced the release of a pre-beta version – Chrome 2.0. In this pre-beta release  of Google Chrome, there are many new features that its users were looking for, like – Forms auto fill option, full-page zoom, auto scroll, support for GreaseMonkey scripts, etc.

Among all the additional features in Chrome 2.0 Pre-Beta release, the feature I personally liked is support for GreaseMonkey scripts (User Scripts) though I am yet to try them out. If you want to try these new features, just follow the instructions given on the official Google blog. But do not forget that, as this is a pre-beta release, all new features are just experimental and may harm your computer system.
