Everything About Gmail’s New Colored Labels!

If you used labels too often then you might have noticed slightly different labels box today with some squares next to them! Well its nothing but Gmails colored label feature! So how to use this feature?

It is by default enabled on new Gmail Version which is available only for IE7 and Firefox 2+.

# How to color a label?

Just click on square box next to each label and you will see a small palate of 24-colors as shown in above screenshot! Also there is a link "Remove color" on same palate which comes in handy if you want to remove color at all!

Yep. On same palate there is a link Edit Name, which on clicking prompts new name!

Here this small palate could have been better if there is "Delete Label" link on it!

Anyway hold on there is more….

No need to scroll down more actions to remove a label. Instead have a look at subject line and at the end of it you will notice every label with a separate "x" link. Just click on it and that label will be removed from mail/conversation you are reading!

Create Facebook Friends Collage Across Selected Friends! (Enhanced Version)

If you are sunscriber of Digital Insipration or Life Hacker, then you might have guessed already what I am serving today! But wait before you quit as there is really more to this Facebook Friends Collage trick.

Facebook_friends_collage Last month Amit found out "—" option by which you can create your facebook friends collage as shown above! The "—" options is also highlighted in screenshot on right side.

There are two things I have noticed about it…

  1. Collage contained all friends! (it have beeen better if we can just create collage for selected friends!)
  2. There is no need to scroll through and click on "—". (you can directly go to collage page)

Now here is the URL i.e. direct link to above page…

If you have noticed there is a "grid" option in above URL which is responsible for grid-like view or what we call facebook friends collage trick!

So to get grid-view for selected friends…

  1. Choose any drop-down option on facebook friends page (ex: network, status, online now, classmates, etc)
  2. Add &grid to URL and hit ENTER! (do not forget & before grid)

You can drag-n-drop above bolmarklet on your browsers bookmark toolbar!

Facebook Collage bookmark will get added to your existing bookmark and when you click on it &grid will be added automatically!

Orkut Scrap Alert Feature by Orkut only!

This new feature by Orkut wil remove need to use Google Talk, Gmail or Thrid party scripts/tools to get instant notification when someone send scraps to you!

Now whenever a new scrap appear on your scrapbook you will see a notification balloon in bottom-right side of your browser. (as shown in above screenshot)

In case if you do not like this feature you can turn-it off by going to Orkut’s notification settings page!

If you have noticed then it seems orkut added complete new column named notice for this feature. We may expect more notice box specially next to new friend requests, new friend approval and other stuff!

Two days before I read about this cool feature on Orkut’s officical  blog itself but was waiting eagrly to get it on my account.

Google Talk got emotions and Group-Chat Feature!

1. New Picture Emotions!

Like other big-old messenger (yahoo, msn, etc) Google talk now have limited picture emotions!

The quantity and quality of these emotions is but surprisingly low. May be Google will add more and better emotions soon.

2. Group-Chat Feature

This is one I guess most guys eagerly waiting for. Very often bunch of people are chatting on common topic like recent cricket match, a new offer,  movie, etc.

Now curtsey of this feature you all can chat in same window! 🙂

Simple way to do this is start chatting with your friend and as people come online invite them to join conversation. Following screenshot shows pictorially how to invite people to join your Google-Talk conversation!

These new feature are only available with GoogleTalk embedded in Gmail. Lets hope an update for official Google Talk Client soon!

Adding Photos to Orkut Scrapbook Made Easy as Orkut Integrated Picasa into Scrapbooks!

Few days back orkut rolled out support for adding colors, images, videos, podcasts, audio and other HTML formatting in scraps! Although the methods to use these feature are somewhat simple most orkut users were looking for some user interface to do these chores!

Today I have noticed orkut added cool interface for adding photos to scrapbook! Look for “add photo” link in scrapbook. It is below the textbox for writing scraps. You can also check following screenshot.

Now once u click on the link you will get a wizard where you will have three options…

1. Upload a picture from your computer to scrapbook (as you do while adding picture to your orkut album)

2. Select any picture from your picasa web album

3. Or you can directly give absolute web address of any picture over internet (URL ending with .jpg, .gif or .png)

Orkut is trying to give you more donuts!

Orkut homepage faces - Devils Workshop

Few weeks back we had discussion – Why Orkut removed user pics from its homepage Logo?

We received nice response from our readers and today official word about this from Orkut! And reasoning is surpisingly simple…

User pics on orkut homepage used to take some time to load. While this is only something noticed by dial-up users only nevertheless each login request put more and more load on the orkut server. That means more “no donut for you” error.

I guess its clear to everyone now how much Orkut care for giving you donuts, so don’t shout on seeing “no donut for you” error message! 🙂

Orkut doubled Album Space! Allows uploading 25 photos!

Yes! From 12 to 25, Orkut silently doubled album storage! So all orkuteers can upload more photos now! Can’t believe it??? Check out the proof below…

Orkut Added Scrapbook Privacy Feature! Safeguard your scrapbook against strangers!

Just noticed a new Orkut Setting so that you can choose who can scrap to you! You can choose between…

  • Friends Only
  • Friends of Friends (recommended by DW)
  • Everyone in your networks

If you haven’t noticed it yet, look for a handy link in your scrapbook as shown in following screenshot…

Clicking on it will take you to the Privacy Setting page of your Orkut account. Under setting “select who is allowed to view my content“, modify write in scrapbook option from drop-down menu. Setting it to all of my friends will prevent rest of the people on orkut from scrapping you.

I guess people (specially girls) concern about their privacy should choose either Friends or Friends of friends!

This will surely bring some relief to girls who are annoyed by sick people on Orkut! Isn’t it???

New Google Search Feature – Live & Recent Cricket Scores are just One-Click Away!

Just type cricket in a Google search box and you’ll see a brief score of all the current cricket matches. A single click will also give you access to a detailed cricket score card. (see following screenshot…)

If you’re a diehard India fan, then type cricket india or cricket score India England to get results for Indian matches. Of course, feel free to replace India with the country of your choice for country-specific results.

If there is not any live match going on the search will return most recent matchs’ scorecard link!

Also one thing Googlers forgot to mention on their blog is, the results are simultaneously available from three sources Cricinfo, Cricbuzz & Willow. So look at green un-clickable link in result (in above screenshot its m6.willow.tv) and if its not the place where you enjoy cricket then look for clickble blue links just below it for alternate resources (in above screenshot its Cricinfo, Cricbuzz & Willow).

Orkut Planning for Major makeover! Adding Photo Upload Support to scrapbook!

Last week we started discussion – Why Orkut removed user pics from its homepage Logo???

It seems Orkut heard about our conversation (i know its stupid 2 imagine… lolz) and confirmed that they are coming with a new look! This turn out Pramod Ghuge prediction to be true as he said in his comment on above discussion,

Orkut is gearing up for a new look and great new features
it is not a coincidence that new logo was unveiled at the same time that most users can send rich content scraps (images, flash, html)so definitely Orkut want to make the public feel like its newer and better!

Well we have more! Although Orkut said the new look will take time to reach all users we managed to capture few screenshots of one such feature. The feature will allow you to upload pics directly to the orkut scrapbook!

Look for “add photo” link in scrapbook. It is below the textbox for writing scraps. You can also check following screenshot.

Now once u click on the link you will get a wizard as shown in following screenshot… (click on image to enlarge it)

No we have not yet got new looks of orkut!

If you have noticed in above screenshot there is only cancel button on screen which is also not working yet! Forget about OK or Upload button!

By the way you can still send images, videos and other content in scrapbook!
