Stop getting useless notifications from a post on Facebook [How-to]

The latest trend on Facebook these days is to tag friends on a picture in order to get more likes and comments. Tagging friends on a picture is the best way to share it with large number of people on Facebook but most of the times it annoys users mainly because of the comment notifications they start getting after the tag.

Well not just the post, you will start getting notifications even if you comment of someone’s status, picture or any post. Let’s see how you can stop such notifications.

How to stop getting useless notifications?

  1. Open the picture or post you’re tagged in or any other post where you’ve posted a comment.
  2. On that post, there will be a link ‘Unfollow Post’ given with the ‘Like’ and ‘Comment’ links, click on that. This ‘Unfollow Post’ link will be there only if you are getting notifications from that post, else it will not appear. Check the screenshot below:

Once you click the ‘Unfollow Post’ link, you will be unsubscribed from that post and Facebook will not send any notification to you related to that post. Same thing can be done for tagged pictures as well. You will still be tagged but you will not get any notification. If you want to get notifications again; click on ‘Follow Post’. This link will appear when you click on ‘Unfollow Post’.

So next time there’s no need to remove a tag, you just have to click a link that’s it. 🙂

Facebook Changes Your Contact Email to “Facebook.com”

Facebook does not necessarily have bad privacy options. It has a bad reputation regarding privacy options. This lack of trust is not going to reduce anytime soon, especially given the new stunt Facebook has pulled for all users.

Facebook has quietly gone and changed the email address you left in your contact information, on your Facebook profile.

So if you had left your contact email as xyz@gmail.com , Facebook has conveniently hidden it and now only shows username@facebook.com (username is your Facebook ID).

Check and change back your contact email address

On your profile, click on the About section as shown in the image above.

As you can see, my email address has changed from my personal one to the one assigned by Facebook. Now change the settings of your Facebook address as not visible on Timeline. Change over the settings for your personal email as visible on Timeline.

Make sure your email address is visible to only Friends – as you might accidentally make your personal email id as public.

The problem is not really ‘privacy’ but when I put up my contact email address to show up on my Facebook profile, I would expect Facebook to notify me about the change in advance before changing it.

This penchant of Facebook for changing settings and options for users without proper communication has actually made me use my Facebook profile more or less only for public updates.  If I want to share my birthday photos with friends, I email them a link to it. And that email does not end with “facebook.com”.

What are your views on Facebook changing which email of yours is to be seen? Do drop in your comments.

How to leave a message conversation on Facebook

There’s a feature in Facebook messages where you have an option of starting a group message thread. In such message conversations anyone can post a message in that thread which will be delivered to all of the members of that conversation.

This is a useful feature but most of the times it ends up spamming the inbox. Unfortunately deleting the thread is not going to work as it will start showing the thread again once somebody posts a reply.

This is a quick post for solution of this problem; here is how you can get rid of such conversations:

1. Open the conversation in your inbox.

2. Now click on “Actions” button on the top of that conversation and select “Leave Conversation…”

3. Then you will see a message “You will stop receiving messages from this conversation and people will see that you left.” Click “Leave Conversation” again to confirm.

Then you will see “You left the conversation”. After that you won’t receive any message from that conversation. Click here to read more Facebook tips and tricks.

How to change Role of a Facebook Page Admin

Facebook finally added a much awaited feature which is very useful for Facebook Page Owners. This feature was missing from Facebook pages from a very long time and that’s why we suggested you to keep your Facebook Pages with a single Admin only.

Different types of Admin Roles:

Facebook now added five different types of admin roles i.e. Manager, Content Creator, Moderator, Advertiser and Insight Analyst. The manager is same as the owner or admin of page having all the privileges and highest degree of permissions for that page. Content creator is the same as a Manager but he can’t add or remove any other member as admin. Moderator can comment or delete comments but cannot create a new post. Advertiser can create an ad and view page insights and the Insight Analyst can just see the page insights. Check out the table below for more clarification.

How to Change Admin Roles:

To add an admin or change the role of an existing admin click on “Edit Page” on the top of page and then select “Admin Roles” from the drop down list. Then either add the name of new admin or select their Role from the drop down list given with their names and click “Save”. Check the screenshot below:

[Online Tool] Check if Your LinkedIn Password was Leaked!

LinkedIn had a security breach yesterday which led to more than 6 million passwords being leaked. LinkedIn’s response to be honest was initially quite slow and guarded.

At such times usually it is better for a company to over-communicate rather than stay quite. Finally they have confirmed that about 6.5 million passwords were leaked from their website. These were hashed passwords, meaning they were encrypted. (Read more about it here)

There is an online tool called LeakedIn which allows users to find out if their passwords is among the 6.5 million leaked ones.

Just type in your password and click on ‘Check’ button. If you password was among the unfortunate ones, it will display that your password was leaked and cracked.

Whatever the outcome, it still is a good idea to change your password of your LinkedIn account. Also if you are using the same password somewhere else, change it to be on the safe side.

Password Tips!

Internet users often under-estimate the necessity of creating strong passwords and also changing them frequently. Here are some related articles that could help keep your passwords safe.

If you have doubts about your LinkedIn password do try out LeakedIn tool and drop in your comments.

Save Gmail Attachments to Google Drive with One-Click

I like using Google Drive a lot more because of things like backing up my photos from my Android to Google Drive drive (which even Dropbox can do). I also use a host of Google related services has meant I have started adopting Google Drive a lot more.

In a way a lot of people are already on Google Drive if they are using Google Docs. But Google Drive allows any type of file to be saved which makes it ideal to download attachments from my Gmail account.

I use Chrome and found Gmail Attachments to Drive extension very useful.

Features of Gmail Attachments to Drive

If you are using Chrome, simply install the extension. Simply sign-in to your Gmail account and look up an email which has a file attached to it.

As you can see in the image below, you will get a new option to ‘Save to Drive’ for the file..

It basically opens the web interface of your related Google Drive account to download it. Ideally I would suggest making a specific folder to move your downloaded attachements into to keep your Google Drive neat and organized.

I have been using this extension for a couple of days and unfortunately could not find a similar one for Firefox. If you do come across any Firefox add-on that does the same, do drop it in comments.
