Most bloggers might not know that a search engine does not view your webpage like people usually does. A fantastic design and images can make a post look very attractive to readers but a search engine is not at all impressed.

  • The website shows many details of a page. You can guess this is the information Search Engines pick up when they crawl the page.

efTwo Replaces Chrome’s ‘find on page’ with a Powerful Keyword Finder

Chrome’s ‘find on page’ let’s you find the words on any webpage but it’s not at all feature rich. You can’t get the position of the word unless and until you type the exact word (capitalization doesn’t matter).

efTwo (F2) is Chrome extension which replaces ‘find on page’ with a reliable keyword finder.

Image 001

Features of efTwo

  • Hit Ctrl+Shift+F to launch. Find multiple keywords at once, unlike Chrome’s default ‘find on page’.
  • You don’t need to type the word perfectly, efTwo highlights the words even if one of the letter (you typed) matches. For example typing ‘Gmail’ is enough to find ‘Google Mail’.
  • Each keyword is given a different color to differentiate one from other.
  • efTwo remembers the keywords you typed before, so the words automatically load when you open the same site as before.
  • No annoying sounds if none of the words you typed matches with the words on the pageOpen-mouthed smile.

efTwo Demo

Lazy to read? No problem, check the demo below, it covers everything.

efTwo works smoothly on HTTP connection, but I’m not sure about HTTPS one as it didn’t work on sites like Gmail, for me. Do tell us how it works for you.

How to Backup/Export your Facebook contacts

This post tells you the easiest way to backup or export your Facebook contacts and their E-Mail using Yahoo. Exporting Facebook contacts is very useful specially in two cases. First one is when you want to make a new account on Facebook and wants your older friends back, in such case you can import all the contacts to your new account and send requests to all of them simultaneously. Second case is when you loose a contact and you want to check who unfriend you on Facebook. We will discuss it later in the next post.

How to Backup/Export your Facebook contacts?

Please note that you need a Yahoo ID as well for this method, if you don’t have one first make it using www.yahoo.com.

  1. Open the page:

http://address.yahoo.com

  1. Now on this page click on “import contacts”.

  1. Now you will see four options i.e Facebook, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and others. Click “Facebook” from these.

  2. After this a pop-up will appear which says “Do you want to share your contacts with Yahoo!”. Click Okay to agree and start exporting.

Your new contacts will now appear in your Yahoo account. Yahoo is a well known E-Mail service and accepted my most of the websites for importing contacts. You can now use you Yahoo contacts in place of Facebook contacts(as both are same now) on any website to find out whether your friends are there or not.

How to share a number of pics together in a Group

Unlike Facebook pages, you have an option of sharing a number of pictures (more than one) in a Facebook Group. And that too simultaneously with a single click, you don’t have to select pics one by one. Let’s see how you can do it in any Facebook Group.

To do it, open a  Facebook Group. Please note that this feature is available with recently updated groups only, it’s not available for groups with old ‘Facebook page’ like appearance. After opening a group click on photos. After that select “Create an Album” from the three options.

Now select some pics that you want to share with that group. All the pics that you have selected will be uploaded simultaneously just like you upload an album on your Facebook profile. This is a much convenient and faster way of sharing pics. Thanks to the new design of Facebook groups. 🙂

Facebook Introduces Much Wanted Tag Approval Feature

I have never been very comfortable with Facebook’s privacy options. The changes to privacy settings and usually the lack of control on people tagging me to any photo has me worried. Yes, I still use Facebook, but not because I like it but because I have all my friends there.

The most irritating feature of Facebook has been friends tagging you. When someone tags you in a post, it actually shows up on Wall. The problem is we cannot control which friend can tag us.

The new feature will allow people to approve any post or photo when a friends tags them.

This change is not really radical and should have been part of Facebook over a year ago. Unfortunately it probably took the threat of Google+, for Facebook to stop taking its users for granted and actually make things easier.

Do not worry if you do not see this feature on your Facebook account. It will be rolled out gradually for all users.

Enable Gmail’s New Re-Designed Login Page

The Google+ effect is spread across the board with Gmail. The new login page for Gmail will also start complying with new design, Google is introducing across all its products and services.

So do not be surprised if you come across this login screen for Gmail in the near future.

New_Gmail_Preview

The difference is with the nice bold button asking visitors to create an account. It also shows links to their Blog, Twitter, Facebook and Buzz profiles.

The new design seems to conform with Google new unified design theory and brings in more uniformity across its products.

If you go the current login page for Gmail, you will see a link at the bottom which will load the new design as preview.

Do look it up and let me know your views through your comments.

How to link your Twitter account with a Facebook page

If you are running your own business and use Twitter and Facebook for it’s promotion then this post is very useful for you. By linking your Facebook page with your personal or your business account you don’t need to update two of them individually. Let’s tell you how you can do it.

Steps:

  1. Open your browser and login to Facebook.

  2. Now click this link: http://www.facebook.com/twitter.

  3. Now it will show all the Facebook that you admin. Find out that particular page that you want to link by clicking “Link to Twitter” given with the page’s name.

  1. Now click on “Authorize app”, that will redirect back to you to the same page again that we opened in Step 2.
  2. Check every box if you want to share everything on Twitter. Uncheck some if you want to like there’s no use of sharing notes on twitter so uncheck it.

  3. Finally click “Save Changes”. Your two accounts are now linked. Now anything you share on Facebook will also be shared on your twitter account automatically.

That’s it, drop a comment if you’re stuck somewhere. 🙂

Get Incompatible Firefox Addons Working in Aurora and Nightly Builds

Sometimes, I just feel, Firefox is a bit too orthodox, you need to restart after almost installing any add-on and the add ons that work in the stable version may not work in the newer beta versions.

Bloggers like me would definitely want to try Aurora or Nightly builds but actually none of the add ons work in these builds. But fortunately, there’s a method to make any add-on work even in testing builds of Firefox.

Making incompatible add ons work in Aurora and Nightly

Initially, when you install Aurora or Nightly, it’ll check for compatible add ons, if any. After installing, go to the Add ons manager and it’ll show the incompatible add ons there.

Firefox incompatible addons

  • Now, head on to Add ons store and get the Add-on Compatibility Checker.
  • Install it and after restarting Firefox, it will start compatibility checking tests, and after the tests are over (takes not more than 10 seconds), you need to restart once again.
  • Now, in the Add ons manager you can enable all the incompatible add ons (see image below)

Enable incompatible Firefox addons

  • You can also help the Mozilla team by sending them feedback about how the add on works in the testing versions of Firefox. For that, click on Compatibility > Select between This add-on still works and This add on no longer works.
Do you use Firefox Aurora or Nightly? What are your views on them?

All about deleting messages from your Facebook inbox

Most of the time people ask questions about Facebook messages like how to delete a particular message from a conversation or what happens when we delete a particular message from that conversation, will it be deleted from the receiver’s inbox as well? This post will give answers to all your queries.

1. What’s the difference between new Facebook chat and Facebook messages?

In a recent change in Facebook’s chat and it’s previously launched ‘Facebook mails’, Facebook integrated both Chat and inbox messages. With this new integration, all your messages can be seen on chat as well or you can chat in your inbox. While the ‘Facebook Chat’ is online way of interacting with your friends, ‘Facebook Messages’ is the offline one. Now you can type a message in the chat window of an offline friend and send it to his/her inbox directly.

2. How to delete a particular message from the Facebook inbox?

With the new inbox, you have an option of deleting a particular or few messages from the whole conversation. To do so, open any Facebook conversation in your inbox and click “Actions” on the top of that page. From the drop down list select “Delete Messages” and check the box given with every message you’ve sent or received. After that, click ‘delete selected’ as shown below.

fb msgs-1

3. What happens when I delete a message from my inbox? Will it be deleted from reciever’s inbox as well?

Well no, whenever you delete a message from your inbox after sending it, it won’t be deleted from the receiver’s inbox. Just consider it like Outbox of your cell phone’s SMS. After sending a SMS you can delete a message from your outbox but not from others inbox.

4. How to delete a Facebook message from friend’s (receiver) inbox?

Clearly it’s not possible to delete a message from receiver’s inbox once it’s sent. You can delete that message only if you know the password of his/her account. 😉

How to remove publishing rights of applications

Two days back, we told you How to remove/block unwanted applications on Facebook. But if you don’t wanna remove that application or block it and it’s annoying you by publishing useless updates on your wall just because you clicked ‘Grant Permission’ while installing that application to your profile, here’s a solution for you.

It’s easy to revoke publishing rights of applications on Facebook. To do so, click on any post shared by that application on your profile and click on the “cross” with that application like you do while deleting a post.

There you will see four options there:

  • Remove post
  • Remove application
  • Revoke publishing rights
  • Report post or spam

Out of four, click on the third option i.e “Revoke publishing rights” for that application.

revoke publishing rights

After that it will ask for your confirmation, click “Revoke” to confirm. Now that application will not be able to post updates automatically to your wall in future.
