iBand – Live Music Show Using Apple’s iPhone/iPad Gadgets!

I have many friends who own a iPhone or a fancy iPod. I am personally not much of a fan of Apple and that can be probably because of my ignorance. I must confess that all my friends who have Apple products are die-hard fans. I came across this video online and realized why Apple products actually rock. They simply have this great ability to surprise everyone with their various features.

iBand – Live Music Show

Below is a video of a band called North Point which calls itself iBand. 🙂

The video consists of a live music performance where they are singing ‘Merry Christmas’ using Apple devices like iPhones and iPad.

Atomic Tom – “Take me out” -Live on NYC Subway

This is the second time I have been amazed by such innovative use of Apple gadgets. Another was a video which showed a group creating music on their iPhones. This video was also among the top 5 tech related videos watched on YouTube in 2010. This performance is almost as good as any with real instruments.

Closer home AR Rahman, the music maestro from Chennai, India also demonstrates a small music demo on this favourite iPad application.

What do you think about Apple products and the apps that allow such innovation? Also do you think the regular musical instruments will change into applications on a tablet in the future! I sure hope that guitars do last out the tablets. It is a little difficult to think of a Rock musician singing to a crowd of 50,000 holding a iPad. 🙂

Alarm glitch gives iPhone users a extended hangover in the New Year

I am sure many of us must have partied on New Year’s eve and ended up with hangovers. Most times after such instances we set alarms on our mobile phones to wake us up for that important meeting or flight. Most iPhone users who did that, were in for a rude shock. The alarm never went off.

A software glitch made sure that alarms set on iPhones did not ring or left many people quite irritated as they over-slept. Some missed meetings and also flights. This is when the buzz on Twitter really caught fire.

The alarms function that did not go off were only the ones set on 1st and 2nd of January 2011. The issue will be resolved probably with a patch upgrade. Ideally alarm glitch will not continue from 3rd January onwards.

Which phones were affected?

Mostly the phones that were affected were iPhone 4  models and older phones with newer upgraded software. This is the second time iPhone 4 users have had to deal with glitches as at first they had call drop issues thanks to antennae problems.

Do you think the aura around Apple is fading in the past year? Do drop in your comments.

5 Ways To Transfer music from your iPod to your PC

I have found iTunes extremely frustrating at times when after formatting my computer, I lose all the music on my iPod as it isn’t synced with the new iTunes version. Now what if I told you there was a way you could transfer music from your iPod to your PC/Mac? How about this, I gave you more than one way to do this – and you can transfer music, movies, pictures?

#1. iDump

One of the most popular software used to transfer music from your iPods to PC. It was released around 2007 but has been updated many times since. It should work with the iPod, iPhone, iTouch and iPad.

#2. Sharepod

Think of this place if you want a one stop shop for your iPod, iPhone and iTouch related transfer and backup related work.  The unique feature of this application is that once you upload your music from your iPod to your PC, it automatically imports the music into iTunes. You can also move your album artwork,

#3. doubleTwist

This one is should be compatible with iPod, Blackberry, Android and PSP Pre. It supports music, video and photo transfer and syncing. While you are there don’t forget to check out the demo video. It’s a great watch.

#4. EphPod

One more option for you guys. It is a far more basic version compared to the multi tasking doubleTwist. However if you use Microsoft Outlook, Winamp on a Windows OS then this one is great way to merge them all into your iPod.

#5. MediaMonkey

My last listing gives you an alternative to replace all the functions of iTunes (including syncing the iPod, iPhone, iTouch) apart from taking a back up of your music on your PC. You can also burn CDs, manage your music library and leave it on auto-DJ mode and leave all your worries behind.

The days of losing your mind over your music have finally come to an end because of these amazing applications. Hope you find these applications just as helpful as I did. Let me know through your comments.

New iPod Nano brings music at your fingertips with multi-touch

Apple has always been known for its awesomeness. Everything that Apple designs can be called clean, simple and intuitive. iPod started getting Apple out of its rut almost a decade ago. The new iPod Nano seems to show that Apple has not forgotten the iPod brand in the era of iPhone and iPad.

iPod Nano is 1.61 inches wide with 1.51 inches of it being a multi-touch screen. It’s almost 1/3rd of an inch when it comes to the depth of the device. This tiny iPod Nano has been redesigned completely and that probably has given it a new lease of life.

iPod Nano Features

  • It comes in 6 different colors. Will also have 24 hr playback battery life.
  • New iPod Nano will have multi-touch screen to basically browse music files and photos.
  • It will support storing photos, play mp3 music and also support FM Radio.
  • The storage space on this iPod device will be 8 GB.

Here is an advertisement video for the new Apple iPod Nano.

Are you impressed with the new redesigned iPod Nano? I like the idea of an ultra small device which has multi-touch. Do drop in your comments and views on the new iPod Nano.

Is Apple iPad inferior to a 5 year old tablet by HP?

Apple has had its fair share of bad press and criticism when it comes to the iPhone 4 but recently I came across this interesting post on Codewordhank.com which showed in a comparative chart that the iPad was actually inferior to a HP TC 1100. This may not be true as the engineering and design might surely be better but in the chart below you will see that most technical specifications are better if not as good as the iPad.

As you can see in the image above that the iPad device is from 2010 and HP TC 1100 a device form 2003. The strange part is it has a bigger storage space and a slightly better CPU. It has support for USB, PC card, RJ45, RJ11 which are not available in iPad.

Does it mean iPad is basically like a large iPod Touch? I am not sure if the comparision can really be called fair as we have not tested them for battery life and other issues. But it does beg to ask the question on why does iPad have lower features than a similar device created in 2003.

What are your view on iPad? Do let me know through your comments.

Apple buys a company to create its own Google Earth

Google Earth was that awesome software which allowed you to rotate the entire world and then zoom into cities, suburbs and even your backyard. It was a one of a kind software and we can spend literally hours exploring the world in a virtual way.

Now that gave Google a tremendous product and it even has a premium version for more advance uses like town planning and geological surveys.

Now Apple has decided to crash Google Earth party and bought a company which does pretty much the same things as Google Earth.

Apple has bought a 3D map making service called Poly9.com. The website has been taken down and according to Slashgear, Apple will probably create a competitor to Google Earth.

Google Earth has a fantastic and massive fan base along with customized maps and other information being shown through mash-ups and extensions. This will be very difficult to replicate for Apple but I guess like Google walked into Apple’s territory with Android and then Nexus One, Apple can also crash Google Earth party.

What are you views on Apples plan for a 3d Mapping software? Will it be as successful as Google Earth? Do let me know through your comments.

iPhone4 Caught Fire While Charging

Looks like Apple’s trouble over iPhone 4 are not going to end soon. If the signal reception problem was not enough, for which Nokia took a dig at Apple, a report now claims that an iPhone 4 caught fire when a user charged it using the cable that accompanied the device.

According to the report, the brand new Apple iPhone 4 caught fire when it was being charged using a standard Apple USB cable hooked to a computer. The cable and the USB port were burnt to varying degree. The phone’s metal bezel became very hot and slightly burned the user’s hand.

Apple store has confirmed that this was a result of a defective USB port and not because of a customer error. The device will be replaced with a new one.

I sincerely hope this was the only case of its kind and has nothing to do with faulty hardware design or below standard components. Otherwise Apple will have a tough time explaining it to customers. Or they might come up with a solution like iHand. :-p

Apple’s new solution for iPhone 4 is the iHand [Funny]

Recently I wrote about Nokia poking fun at Apple’s iPhone by showing how Nokia phones can be held without ever the fear of losing connectivity. While the laughter around the net was about to die out, we have we came across a incredibly funny idea post about an accessory for Apple called the iHand. As holding the iPhone 4 in your hand can cause the phone to lose connectivity Apple will roll out this accessory called the iHand which replicates a hand. 😀

Image: Scoopertino

The detail of this spoof is funnier with ideas like it will in various tones like iHand Caucasian, iHand Black, iHand Indian, iHand Asian. 😛

Apparently the accessory will cost $69 and will help people to hold the iPhone 4 without any signal issues.

Nokia makes fun of Apples iPhone 4’s network loss

You might be aware the the latest iPhone 4 have been having a lot of issues with network being lost if held in the hand and the problem is apparently resolved by using the phone in a case. This has been probably Apple’s biggest embarrassment as it has been know to put out products which are vigorously tested.

Apple has made a great deal of advertisements mocking Windows for its buggy software and the fact that it does not get the simple things right. They have recently thanks to the iPhone, invaded into the territory of Nokia.

So what does Nokia do after Apple iPhone 4 woes? It decides to mock Apple with its own instructions on how you can hold a Nokia handset without losing connectivity. 😛

Nokia further mocks iPhone by saying that the key function of its mobile phones is to be able to receive and make calls. 😛

Most times when there is a public relations disaster the competitor will always take advantage of it. We all know about Apple’s fantastic advertising ability especially when they dished it out to Microsoft and lately its response to Adobe’s “we love choice” campaign.

What goes round comes around and I guess it is Apples time to take a few knocks from Nokia.

What are you views on Nokia making fun of iPhone network issues? Do let me know through your comments.

New Gmail Interface for iPad users

Google has unveiled their new Gmail interface for iPad users, taking their first step on Iterative Web App series which will continue to release features for Gmail for mobile. Now for iPad users the compose interface has been redesigned.

Apple iPad users would now get an updated email compose screen which appears as an overlay providing more space for writing the message.

The official Google statement says

” When you write an email you’ll now get a big full screen compose window instead of splitting the screen between your inbox and the compose view. More text is visible at once and there are no more distractions with messages on the side. Also fixed problems that prevented scrolling on long messages. ”

As of now, the new interface is only available for US English.

You might want to read How to get Gmail’s Tablet interface with Chrome.

You can actually play around with the same user interface on your desktop. Apple Safari 5 now comes with an option to render pages as Apple iPad.
