How WordPress changed my blogging career?

If you are a regular reader of Devils Workshop, then you must be aware of the post written by Rahul on how to migrate a blog from Blogger to WordPress without losing Google juice. It was my symposiumz blog that I used for writing the post.

If anyone had asked me what was the best decision that you made in your blogging career, then I would definitely say choosing “WordPress“!

From Blogger to WordPress: Comparing the Stats

Visitors:

Earlier, when my site was in Blogger, it used to have around 200 visitors per day(max). The page hits were so low that sometimes it would make me think that “Blogging is not for me”. But now, after shifting to WordPress, the graph is just increasing. The minimum visitor count per day I got till now was only 1.5k or so.

Page  views:

The same story is with the number of page views. If there are more visitors, then automatically your page views would increase. I remember asking Rahul during the migration process “What do you feel about my site? It gets around 15k page views per month.” He replied back saying, it is quite decent (I knew it was not) and it should increase constantly, which is a healthy factor for any site. But now, I get 15k page views, in 2 days.

Search engine visitors:

The number of visitors coming from search engines (mainly Google) were only 20-50 when I was in Blogger. But, now I get more than 1k queries per day. For some of the keywords, my site shows on the first page in Google after this migration.

Alexa ranking:

Symposiumz ranking was around 7 lakh when it was in Blogger. Now, it is about to touch 1lakh soon. But the Google page rank doesn’t seem to have changed much. May be it takes some time.

RSS readers:

If I remember correctly, my RSS feed count was close to 200 in Blogger. But now, it is about to cross 3k. I think, that would be a nice figure for any site.

Site reach:

Earlier, my site got visitors only from Chennai. Now, it has slowly expanded and I can see the patches spreading all over India in my analytics account.

Adsense revenue:

It took nearly 9 months to get my first cheque from Adsense. But now, I get a check every month. You could calculate the minimum amount I could earn from that. 😉

All these things happened within a minimum span of 3 months. It is off season for my site and the visitor count has reduced to some amount. But WordPress bought a big change in my stats in the past few months. Moreover, WordPress is so customizable that you will feel the difference and you wouldnt regret migrating. If you are new to blogging, I would strongly recommend you to start your blogging career with WordPress.

And again, thanks Rahul for all your help.

Best Ad Placement Strategy for Google AdSense Ads on a Blog

I always try to write my own experience when it comes to Google Adsense. I remember those days when I was new to Adsense and knew nothing about it. I always try to share new things with you all so that new bloggers reach their 100$ as soon as possible. Today’s post of mine only targets upcoming bloggers to hit their 100$. In this post I’ll tell you about some best spaces where you can place your Google Ads to earn more.

If you are a newbie, I recommend you to read this post till last and I guarantee you that you will triple your Adsense earnings by reading this post.

Before starting this post I assume that you are using 2 column or 3 column templates. Below is a basic layout of 3 column template and I’ll discuss about 2 column template at the last, as there is not much difference between the two.

basic layout of 3 column template

Now here are following parts of 3 column template:

1. Header

The header place is always used to place logo. You can also place search engine here. But remember do not place Google Adsense on the top i.e in header. Want to know why. Read this post on my blog on Triple Your Adsense Earnings With A Simple Trick. I do not want to write the same thing again, its better to read the above post.

Till now you are known with the fact that placing Google Ads in header is not at all good. Now in the next point I’ll tell you the super best place to put Google Ad.

2. Menu Bar

The second part that make a 3 column template is Menu Bar.(See the image above). It really plays a vital role in your template. This space in your blogger template can boost your earnings. The trick is that :

1st Method : You should place a horizontal link unit ad instead of Menu Bar. The size of the ad should be 728x15_4) that displays up to 4 link.

What will happen : Placing Google Ads here looks same as Menu Bar, and this is the place where you will get a lot of clicks.

2nd Method : Some of you do not want to remove the menu bar from their template. What you can do is you can place the same link unit ad just below the Menu Bar. This trick will also generate the same amount of clicks.

Note : If you are trying to opt the second method, please read this post of mine on Say No To Google Ads Under Menu And Drop Down Links.

3. Column 1

The 3rd part of the template is Column1. It is the space in the blog where you write your posts. This space contains all the crucial content of your blog. Lets see this column again. Have a look at the image below :

In the above image you can see the overview of the Column1. It contains Post Title and Post Body. Now the best space to place Google Ad in this column is between the post title and post body. If you have a blog that uses Blogger platform see this post on How To Place Google Ads Between Post Title And Post Body by Rahul.

Number of clicks generated here are much more, compared to any other place on this column.

Note : Before placing Google Ads here reader this post of mine on Are We Allowed To Place Google Ads After Post Title?

4. Column 2 and Column 3

The column 2 and column 3 are known as Sidebars. In the 1st figure the Column 2 is the left sidebar and Column 3 is the right sidebar. If you are using both these columns you should place a Skyscraper (120×600) image ad in any of the column.

But if you are using 2 column template its better to place a Large Rectangle (336 x 280) image ad in the sidebar.

Placing ads in the footer is not at all recommend if you own a blog.

Well, this was all about Google Adsense and Blog, and I’ll be writing more and more on Google Adsense, here and on my blog too. So keep visiting and appreciating us by writing your comments.

Nokia Could Leap Over to Laptop Manufacturing!

If the rumors floating around the world of Internet is correct, Nokia, one of the largest manufacturer and seller of mobile devices in the world may soon enter into the computing sector too (specially laptop manufacturing).  Actually, recently Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo during an interview to Finnish national broadcaster YLE disclosed about these plans by Nokia.

Though there is no such official information about Nokia entering laptop market, but this news may be treated as correct to some extent because it has been passed over from the mouth of Nokia’s Chief Executive who is among one of the top officials in a company.

Here is exactly what, Nokia’s Chief Executive has to say:

We are looking very actively also at this opportunity. We don’t have to look even for five years from now to see that what we know as a cell phone and what we know as a PC are in many ways converging. Today we have hundreds of millions of people who are having their first Internet experience on the phone. This is a good indication.

What made Nokia consider jumping into laptop market?

Recently we saw some of the PC manufacturers jumping over to the cell phone bandwagon. Though Acer announced launch of some of its smart phones last week, there is no official information about Dell entering into smart phone business but even Dell is said to be planning to manufacture smart phones. So, this initiative by Nokia (to manufacture laptops) could be a reply by Nokia to those trying to reduce its market share in cell phone industry.

Its just a matter of time that will bring the fact on the screen!!
