I’ve been using Twitter for some 8 months now and recently joined Yahoo Meme. Apart from micro blogging, just like most of us, I also happen to be on Facebook, FriendFeed and the likes.

Managing the above said services through dedicated Desktop/Mobile clients is becoming more and more time consuming just because of the sheer number of services they provide. We have so many new Microblogging/Social Networking sites that keeping track of all of them becomes difficult on a day-to-day basis.

Personally, I have a ‘Prosumer Light’ plan on my BlackBerry which only allows me to send/receive unlimited email & chat. Though, I could use Twitter via TweetyMail and TwitPic, I was missing out on other micro-blogging networks such as Meme and sometimes even Facebook. Now all I do is Email or IM Ping.fm and the message is posted across all linked network. Useful, Quick and best of all FREE.

All you need is the access to internet and your social network will follow you everywhere.

Google adds new options with Search.

Google has now added some new options to their search engine. Once you enter a search, there is a link right at the top of all the search results which is ‘Show options‘. Click on that link and the list of options emerge to the left as shown in image below.

Blogs and Reviews.

  • Once done with the list of search list there is an link to filter the search results with Blogs. That will show results which are related to blogs. Check the image below and see how on clicking blogs it shows all cricket related blogs.

  • Similarly if you click on Review it will bring up a list of reviews of cricket plans for mobile phones and also a few reviews of some cricket based video games.

Shopping: More and Less

  • Google is fantastic to look up details for something you want to buy online. But sometimes you want to look up sites which only has related information and not necessarily a site from where you can make a purchase.
  • Click on More Shopping Sites or Fewer Shopping Sites and toggle the results. As it shows in the image below the moment I clicked on More Shopping Sites it showed search results from where I can buy cricketing gear online. I have highlighted the result.

Add tweetmeme/ Retweet button in your blogger blog

Recently Devilsworkshop has added a very important ‘tweetmeme’ button which you can see with every post. After using this button, I thought of installing it in my blog which is hosted on blogger.com (blogspot). Unfortunately there’s no direct widget which can be used for blogger but you can still use it in your blog, just follow the steps given below.

  1. Open your blogger dashboard.
  2. Go to ‘Layout’ >> ‘Edit Html’.
  3. Check the ‘Expand Widget Templates’
  4. Now find this html code there,

copy and paste,

Save Changes and see the retweet button on your blog with every post.

CHANGES:

In the above code change ‘twitterusername’ in red to your twitter’s username. This change is required to use your username in every RT or Retweer else it will use @tweetmeme. in the above code the RT will be RT @twitterusername.

That’s it, now all you need to do is change the placement of the button and select which suits best to your blog.

10 reasons why people still love blogger

blogger-300x298We all know that most of the bloggers have now switched to WordPress.org or better we say a self hosted blog as their blogger platform but still many bloggers use Blogger.com for blogging. Obviously a self hosted blog is much better in terms of SEO, blog ranking e.t.c. But there are few reasons why people love blogger and still use it,

  1. Low or Negligible cost: If you are using blogger, then all you need to pay is your Domain name registration charges if you want to use .com .org or any other custom domain name, else it’s free too. 🙂

  5. Alternatives for everything: Most of the features aren’t available on blogger but we can find their alternatives easily on the net and the best part of these alternatives is that they are free of cost too. 😛
  6. ‘Blogger’ supported by everyone: Being the oldest blogging platform, blogger is now supported by every website that offers widgets, that means you can install these widgets without even using html codes.
  7. Integrated with Picasa: With blogger you get a free space to upload 1000MBs of photos on Picasa which is not limited either cuz it is 1000MB per account and you can make as many account as you want 😀
  8. Better rank, more Money- Who cares!!: Most of the people don’t write just for the sake of money, they write cuz they love to write, in that case who cares whether your blog is SEO friendly or not.
  9. Integrated Adsense: All you need is to enter your adsense account details (at the time of setup) then show these ads wherever you want.
  10. Basic Blogging Platform: Most of the people start blogging with blogger just to learn some basics. But after becoming a good blogger they don’t switch to any other platform cuz it’s a big hectic job to do so.
