[Google] Chrome 10 claims exciting improvements!

Yesterday, I was almost about to sleep when suddenly I noticed a small icon on my Chrome browser toolbar which indicates that there is a pending update. I immediately allowed the operation and my browser re-started. When I checked the ‘About’ section, I was amazed to see the new ‘Beta’ version of Chrome, i.e. 10.0 (10.0.648.82 to be specific).

What all is New?

  • Chrome 10.0 comes with an updated V8 engine for JavaScript processing which is 66% faster.
  • The beta also adds support for GPU video acceleration, which is said to decrease the CPU usage by a whopping 80%. Ultimately, this would let you be more multi-tasking and even save on battery life.
  • Another change you should notice is the browser Settings now opens in a different tab instead of the old ‘window’ style.
  • You can even search for a specific thing you are looking for inside the Settings section.
  • Now you can sync your saved passwords too alongwith the other browser settings. Don’t be afraid, it will allow to set a separate password to encrypt your saved passwords.

Rest you can understand better by looking at the video. Also, download Google Chrome 10 now.

SocialGmail: Add personal touch to your Gmail!

Everyday, I get about 100 emails from different people, friends and even blogs. Browsing through those emails I read their sender’s name, the Subject and the boring date & time however what I miss is the personal touch which I get while talking to them over phone or meeting them up.

Today, suddenly my friend ‘Rakshit’ asked me to see SocialGmail, a Chrome extension. I thought must be something usual which I often get recommendations from my friends and colleagues. Though when I tried it out, I was amazed to see the way it works.

SocialGmail adds a row of Avatars (iconic pictures) to your email conversations just before the sender’s name. This happens only if they are personally connected to you on Gmail and not for unknown people or anonymous emails.

Video demonstrating SocialGmail

I was just thinking that this should have been a Gmail Labs application instead of being a Chrome extension. What do you think? Let me know your suggestions and please do post your comments as that is the biggest encouragement I receive for writing. 🙂

Google Chrome extension to fight content farms!

Spam has been ever rising on the Internet and Google finds itself lonely fighting content farms hosting low and pathetic content. Now it has realized the need to fight this menace together with users and hence developed a Chrome extension called Personal Blocklist.

The extension shall work only for Google Chrome users at present and shall let them block malicious and spam listings directly from Google results. Such blocked results shall never appear again in their search in the future.

However this does not mean that the result itself shall be blocked throughout Google servers. That is not going to happen, instead any blocked results shall be automatically reported to Google and it will just guide the company’s staff to filter and decide things accordingly.

After blocking that website, see what happens:

Users can even unblock or edit a blocked website directly from their Chrome toolbar using the extension icon as commonly done. We all hope Google finds this a way out to filter most of the spam on Earth and our search becomes spam free.

Drop in your comments and let me know if you are using this new extension.

Create your own Chrome advertisement on YouTube

I have started using Google Chrome pretty much exclusively. I am not a fan of Internet Explorer at all. Also I do not like how the fan on my laptop starts running over time when I start Firefox.

Chrome is light, simple and has a really clean interface to work with.

I was impressed with a particular advertisement from Chrome a while ago. This advertisement simple wrote a part of famous quotes and left it to our minds to work out the rest. Most cases we will think about the right answer.

Here is the video of that advertisement often simple called as “E=”

Create your own Chrome challenge

A great concept, but now YouTube allows you to create your own challenge and share it with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Visit the Chrome Fast channel on YouTube and you will have the opportunity to create your own personalized Chrome advertisements.

I created a DW Challenge for our readers at this link. Unfortunately we cannot embed the videos we create from this channel. Hopefully you do crack the challenge. 😉

I think this is a fantastic way for Chrome to create a loyalist base and have them spread the word. Try our Chrome Fast on YouTube and let me know your thoughts through your comments.

5 Free Games You Can Play on Chrome Browser! [Chrome Apps]

With web-browsing just not the only thing in today’s Internet world, there are a lot of interesting applications developed to keep users busy with the product. Just like Facebook, Google Chrome offers 1000s of applications including interesting Games. However these apps are just random websites and installation is not done to your hard-disk. I have tested few of them and here’s the list.

SparkChess

As the name suggests, this is an online Chess game. The Game has three difficulty levels, you can even undo your moves till unlimited depths. The best feature is that the game do not needs an active Internet connection. This is definitely worth playing.

Bubble Witch

This one is quite witchy… When I started playing, there were three people boiling something (as in real witches do in movies) and there were balls coming up which needs to be placed in similar pairs to create enough spiders. You do have a time limit. Worth playing if you have lots of time to pass. In fact I made 34555 in my first attempt itself.

Mafia Wars

Do I need to introduce this famous game by Zynga which has been highly popular on Facebook as well. The game insists on building Mafias and your friends joining you to increase your power.

Poppit

There are lots of balloons you need to prick in pairs to get the gifts stuck in between to the floor. Interesting and addictive game. My score on first attempt was 690. Not that bad, huh!

WGT Golf Challenge

Though I do not know how to play Golf even in gaming, I tried out this and found this too much interesting as the graphics and reality is worth appreciation. However the initial loading time was pretty high when compared to other games. I made a penalty score of 330 on my first attempt. (I told you I do not know how to play Golf, though there is a tutorial in the game!

Magazinify – Convert your Bookmarks into a PDF Magazine instantly

I found Magazinify when I was wondering how to read nice articles I found while working. It was usual that due to lack of time, I could not read any articles entirely and had to close the windows to continue my work.

Magazinify is a small Internet-based application available for browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox (those are the two I tested for) and works like a relaxation when you don’t really have time but you still want to read those nice articles. What all you need to do is to press the small Magazinify button placed on your URL bar automatically (you can even place a button to your Toolbar) and it’s done.

The first time you click on the Magazinify button, it asks for your Facebook Login (the only one it supports as of now, Facebook is everywhere! ). Later it won’t be asking you for any kind of Login and clicking the button would just record the page link to be sent to you later.

How it Works

When you click on the Magazinify button, the opened page is scheduled for PDF conversion automatically and is sent as a PDF to your registered email address (the Facebook Email Address by default) and any Advertisements are removed while PDF creation. You can even chose whether you would like the digest to be sent to you daily, weekly or even monthly.

As per my experience, after clicking on the Magazinify button, I received a customized PDF magazine the next day itself. I will post the preview of the magazine very soon. Until then try magazinify for yourself. 🙂

Panic Button – Keep your work secret with Chrome extension

Do you always feel troubled people looking at your screen when you are working and that too when you are doing something important? Your browser tabs shows the title of the page you have opened, but you don’t  feel like sharing that as well. The solution is available under Google Extensions, called “Panic Button”.

Installing this Extension to your Chrome will let you hide all your tabs just at a click of a button. And trust me it’s really easy. You can even set a keyboard shortcut (Default: F12) and just pressing the button immediately hides all your tabs. Don’t worry as using the same button or the keyboard shortcut will even get all your tabs back. You can even set a Password for tab restoration and make it further safe!!

Enable Google Instant Search In Google Chrome Omnibox

Many of  you might know that we can search query in Chrome’s address bar to get Google result. Chrome is also going to add support for instant search in the latest upcoming stable release. Then we will be able to enter the query in the address bar(Omnibox) to watch the instant result.

Turn On Chrome Instant Search

Chrome instant is like when you enable it and enter text in the address bar(Omnibox) for faster searching and browsing, it will show the instant search like Google do.

But here is a little difference, Chrome’s instant search shows a result for that query only. Suppose you have to search for “Android” you will start entering text “an” in the address bar  but it will show result for “an” not “android”. Chrome instant does not predict words like Google do but it auto completes the frequently visited web pages.

Chrome instant is a nice feature but I found in one case it may slow you down. When you write any query in the address bar and Chrome finds a web page that matches your query then it loads that page first. For instance, when I type “d” in the Omnibox, Chrome auto completes my query as “devilsworkshop.rsites.dev6.rt.gw”, since I frequently go to devilsworkshop.rsites.dev6.rt.gw.

If I type “n”, Chrome loads news.google.com. It may be useful for frequently visited pages, but loading a page just because I type a letter in the address bar is a bit too much. This way, you may end up loading a lot of pages while typing a query and that may be distracting and may slow you down.
