Split Screen is an extension for google chrome that lets you browse two websites within a single tab of your browser. This extension can be really helpful on wide screen monitors, which will give you endless real world uses.

Here is how the browser looks!

Some of you might think that you have a better option to switch tabs on your browser, but the extension can be really helpful in some cases when you want to compare two websites or results. Listed below are some of its uses:

  • Compare search results to two search engines side-by-side.
  • Surf one website till the other one is loading like a buffering video, rather than waiting or switching tabs to see whether the website has opened or not.
  • Comparing products on two websites.
  • And many more!

This extension will reduce the time you waste on one website till it is loading, and in turn will boost your productivity. But HTTPS sites don’t work with it. The extension provides you an additional functionality to split your browser tab vertically or horizontally.

Using Chrome to keep Windows clean

Now a days since we have more or less moved away from Email clients and also end up using documents which are stored online the chances are we end up spending more time on a browser than we do on any other application on a PC.

It is probably one of the main reason why Google came up with Chrome so that we can use all their online services more efficiently and also will make Google less reliant on other browsers. Chrome has a great extension called Click and Clean.

  • The extension allowed me to clean up all the web history on Chrome, Java Cache, Silverlight cookies and also all Flash Local Shared Objects (LSO).
  • Also allowed me to empty out Recycle Bin. It has shortcuts to other system facilities like Defragmentor, Device Manager and also Add/Remove Program.
  • The best feature of this extension is that I do not need to use Windows at all while I am using Chrome browser as I can start up almost any program and also carry out any cleaning and maintenance operations right from my browsers.

If you are a Windows users using Chrome then installing Click Clean is a must.

Watch Google page crumble before your eyes [Video]

Google Chrome has often been considered the cooler browser when it came to Internet Explorer. Chrome is considered to have better speed and performance which is generally accepted. Current version of Internet Explorer simply cannot match up but maybe it might with its next version.

I came across this very interesting website site on which you can literally see the Google Home page crumble before you eyes. What is more the various elements like the search bar and Google symbol can be bounced around.

What is incredible about this page is that you can left click and hold on an element on the page like the Google symbol or even the search bar and bounce it around along the browser.

This is obviously meant to show off Chrome’s superiority as a browser. The developer also has a great sense of humor as when you open this website with Internet Explorer it displays the message that “You browser is not cool enough for this website” 🙂

You can check the site at mrdoob projects and do check out the video below which I created to demonstrate how cool this website really is.

Do try out the website and maybe even play a prank on someone with this one. Do let me know your views through your comments.

Google Chrome Stable Version for Mac and Linux Released

Google has finally released the first stable version for Linux and Mac users. Initially, Beta versions of both the operating systems were available for download since December, but the number of bugs and instability that the beta version brought with it almost made it impossible for the browsers to be used. And for those, who have been keeping of track of these updates must be knowing how incomplete, unpredictable and buggy the browser was nearly a year ago.

The stable versions are fully featured, all-purpose browsers that come with a host of other features:

  • Improved plugin support, extensions and desktop functionality.
  • Bookmark and browser preference sync across multiple browsers.
  • Fully incorporated HTML5 features.

Apart from the above mentioned features, google chrome has also made measurable amount of improvement in speed, security and performance. In short, the stable release for Linux and Mac OS users now has all those features available, as with windows users. And Flash player integration is expected to be available in the next release of the browser.

If you are already using any of the Beta releases of the browser on your Mac OS or Linux, your browsers will be automatically updated to this stable version soon. Don’t want to wait? Download it now – for Mac | for Linux.

Scan CSS properties on any website with Chrome

A blogger starts usually with an idea he or she wants to share with others. Some of us end up writing on a Blogger platform and get wiser and migrate to WordPress. Almost every professional blogger knows a bit of code or atleast some HTML basics. CSS is obviously the most important part of your website as it basically shows how your website looks. It is the front end skeleton in other words. CSS borders basically give your website the look it has.

Here is a great Chrome extension which allows you to scan any webpage and CSS elements to reveal their properties.

About CSScan

  • This extension called CSScan allowed me to look up any text or box in a website and a pop up would show with its CSS properties.
  • This extension is a great way to look up exact what font was used or the exact color to get a quick work around for hours of trial and error.
  • The extension only displays these properties and does not grab CSS details for you to copy or paste. Just clicking once on the CSScan icon shows up the CSS properties as you roll over the mouse on any webpage.

CSScan is of great use for quick ideas on CSS properties which you can look up by just rolling over the mouse. If you are new to CSS then I guess this extension will be quite useful. If you liked reading this you might also like to read up copy-paste ready made HTML Tags and also creating vertical and horizontal menus without coding language.

Gmail allows drag and drop of images within message

A few days ago I wrote about and also created a video showing how Gmail allows us to drag and drop files as attachments from the desktop rather than looking them up manually and attaching them. Gmail Labs had a feature to include images within a email message. Now they have mixed both features and you can drag and drop images while composing your email.

Use of inserting images within a message

  • There was earlier a add a button labs feature which allowed adding an image within your email message but this feature allowed me to simple drag and drop an image from desktop onto the message window.
  • This really makes using Gmail on a browser almost as simple and efficient as a desktop email client like lets say Live Mail.
  • While I used this feature it did give me some issues while Gmail offline was enabled. Also this feature works only with Chrome browser at the moment and will be introduced across all browser soon according to Gmail Blog.

Do try out this feature if you are using Chrome and let me know what do you think about it through your comments.

Here is a video I created to demonstrate Drag and Drop of images within a Gmail in Chrome.

Check if you can trust a website before you click on its link with WOT

As a blogger who writes about Tech, I end up visiting a lot of websites which might or might not be safe. How do I come across these website? Usually I come across them by doing some research, thanks to Google our friendly search engine.

To make sure I do not click on a link to a site which is not trustworthy I use Web Of Trusts (WOT) addon or extensions depending on the browser you use.

About Web of Trust

  • Web of Trust actually has scanned millions of websites and allows us simple warning about the sites trustworthiness thanks to an add-on of extension.
  • It shows the green Web of Trust symbol as show in the above image whenever Google lists out search results.
  • Individual sites also can be scanned as and when you visit them. The best way to really check out how WOT rates them before visiting the website is to search for that URL through Google. 😉

Web of Trust is supported across Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome and works on Mac, Windows and Linux. For someone like me who is online and browsing literally many hours everyday Web of Trust along with Privacy Choice which is an Firefox Add-on to keep a tab on which websites track my usage statistics is a big boon.

Do look it up and let me know if you find it useful.
