Twitter helped Dell earn $2 million

Well, not sure if Twitter is making any real money or not, but Twitter sure is helping Dell in making plenty of it! Dell claims that through its Twitter activity there has been an increase in the sale of their Dell computers and has earned more than $2 million in revenue from its @DellOutlet since 2007.

According to TwitterCounter, @DellOutlet is getting close to the top 50 most followed Twitter users.

Writes Stefanie N on Dell’s corporate blog:

“We’ve surpassed $2 million in revenue in terms of Dell Outlet sales, but we’re also seeing that it’s driving interest in new product as well. We’re seeing people come from @DellOutlet on Twitter into the Dell.com/outlet site, and then ultimately decide to purchase a new system from elsewhere on Dell.com. If we factor those new system purchases that come from @DellOutlet, we’re actually eclipsed $3 million in overall sales.”

Since June of 2007, Dell’s follower base on Twitter grew substantially from 11,000 followers to over 600,000. Considering the number of followers and the big bucks it has been earning through Twitter, I’d say it sure is good news for Dell. Twitter, however, could learn a little “something” from this!

Nokia Could Leap Over to Laptop Manufacturing!

If the rumors floating around the world of Internet is correct, Nokia, one of the largest manufacturer and seller of mobile devices in the world may soon enter into the computing sector too (specially laptop manufacturing).  Actually, recently Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo during an interview to Finnish national broadcaster YLE disclosed about these plans by Nokia.

Though there is no such official information about Nokia entering laptop market, but this news may be treated as correct to some extent because it has been passed over from the mouth of Nokia’s Chief Executive who is among one of the top officials in a company.

Here is exactly what, Nokia’s Chief Executive has to say:

We are looking very actively also at this opportunity. We don’t have to look even for five years from now to see that what we know as a cell phone and what we know as a PC are in many ways converging. Today we have hundreds of millions of people who are having their first Internet experience on the phone. This is a good indication.

What made Nokia consider jumping into laptop market?

Recently we saw some of the PC manufacturers jumping over to the cell phone bandwagon. Though Acer announced launch of some of its smart phones last week, there is no official information about Dell entering into smart phone business but even Dell is said to be planning to manufacture smart phones. So, this initiative by Nokia (to manufacture laptops) could be a reply by Nokia to those trying to reduce its market share in cell phone industry.

Its just a matter of time that will bring the fact on the screen!!

Is Dell Serious about Smart Phones Business?

Recently the Wall Street Journal featured that Dell is moving away its concentration in its main stream business of computers and planning to come out with a manufacturing unit for smart phones under its own banner ‘Dell’. According to reports, the move is being considered keeping in mind the struggles Dell has to face in these tuff times of recession.

If we believe to rumors about the Dell smart phone then it is said that, these phones will be based on Google’s Android and Windows OS. Right now, Android has been used only in a T- Mobile based phone. It has also been reported in the Wall Street Journal that among the two phones currently being developed by Dell, one will be a slider and the other one would be a touch screen handheld. So, its just matter of time that will disclose the reality whether Dell is really moving to smart phones business or not!
