Find the value of your Facebook page

As a blogger I feel Facebook pages are very important as it allows a blog to share links to its blogs and it is helpful to people who are basically using Facebook more than anything else.

So what is the value of your Facebook page? The answer is a little difficult to explain. Mainly every fan of your Facebook Page is a money maker. For a blog it might translate to consistent visits and hence adding up on adsense revenues. 😉

It shows the the value of Fbknol’s Facebook page is about $2640 and that is if we calculate each fan worth $5.00. Ofcourse for a blog its difficult to earn $5 through every fan so we can actually increase of decrease the number. This will increase with lets say a Facebook page of a company offering paid services on the internet.

Try out Evaluator Virtue for looking up the value of your Facebook Page and get pointers on how to improve its end value.

Do you have a Facebook Page and do you think it is crucial for your business? Do let us know through your comments.

Football Worldcup Fever On Facebook- Tata Docomo Launches Goal Mania

Football fever is on big time and we are all glued to TV sets rooting for our favorite team and players. But, how about putting all that football craze to some use when a match is not going on. Worry not, because Tata Docomo has launched a new game contest on Facebook. Remember the fantasy dream team contests ESPN used to have for cricket teams wherein you pick your own team and then compete with others in the league.

Tata Docomo has launched Goal Mania pretty much on the same lines of a fantasy league and it is available as an application on Facebook.

Link for application: Goal Mania

Once you launch the application, a notification will appear asking you to like the official page of Tata Docomo on Facebook without which you cannot play the game. Nice little social media strategy there.

The rules of the games are real simple.

  • You get to pick 11 players in your team and save them
  • You are allowed 3 substitutions after every match, which means that for every game you can choose the players with the maximum probability of scoring goals.
  • You are rated based on the number of your goals your team players score. The one with maximum score stands a chance to win goodies

Once you become a fan, click on ‘Play’ tab in the app and you get a panel to pick you dream team from the drop-down,choose the team which is playing a game that day and based on your knowledge and instincts choose your team. They also provide you with the playing positions (forward, defense etc) to make it easier for everyone to pick players. After that, you just wait for the match to get over and ensure you come back to make those substitutions before the next match starts.

How to make a substitution: Select the team of your player you want to replace. Click on his name and press the red arrow button to replace. Once that is done, select the team from which you want to add a player to. Select the player from the left panel and click on Green arrow to put him on your team.

Ensure that you don’t remove all the players from your existing team since you can only substitute three

That’s it. Now all you need to do it wait and watch your scores as the matches go by. Based on the number of goals the players in your team score your scores increase and then whoever has the maximum point wins.

Invite Friends To Get More Substitutions: This is where it gets interesting. To increase the substitution limit(3), you need to invite your friends to the game. For every 10 referrals that you do, you get one extra substitution. You need to ensure your friends key in your Player Id while registering for the game. Your player id is displayed on the home tab of the Goal Mania application.

Have a go at the game and let us know your experience. There are cool prizes too which might make the playing more fun.

Yahoo Pulse: Yet another mistake by Yahoo?

A great way to get an idea about how well a internet company is doing would be to read tech blogs. The more the number of times a company and its services are reviewed and mentioned, you can be assured that the company is building and maintaining a momentum. This is where Yahoo lags behind against almost every big internet brand.

I came across Yahoo Pulse and was told that it would rival Google Buzz. So I decided to check it out and mid-way realized that this might be another mistake by Yahoo.

What is Yahoo Pulse?

If you are familiar to Google Buzz which almost everyone is thanks to them embedding it on Gmail, you will find Yahoo Pulse pretty similar to Buzz. Pulse does have better features when it comes to privacy as atleast at this moment I do not see it in your Yahoo Inbox by default.

So basically Yahoo Pulse allows you to share photos, messages, videos and even sync your Facebook wall messages with your Yahoo contacts without the need for leaving the Yahoo environment. Great! But the worrying part is how many still want to remain in the Yahoo environment?

Why Yahoo Pulse can rock.

Yahoo Pulse plans to allow users to tap into Facebook. To the extent that we might be able to play Mafia Wars and Farmville along with use all features of Facebook through Yahoo Pulse. This further being integrated with Yahoo Mail might mean a user would not need to visit another website at all and use Yahoo for all purposes.

This is great news for loyal Yahoo users and might improve some numbers.

Why Yahoo Pulse will not rock.

I remember using Yahoo Meme a couple of times. It was supposed to rival Twitter and to be honest it has better features than Twitter does. But Twitter had cornered the market when it came to micro-blogging. Yahoo Pulse will meet a similar fate to Yahoo Meme as it is not offering something newer for users but just something better.

Also Yahoo concentrating on allowing its users get more Facebook updates seems to be a short term view. Yahoo cannot allow users to use Facebook on one side from its own environment and still compete with Facebook. It is like a Twitter application competing with Twitter!

It just will not succeed as Yahoo is building a growth strategy which is dependent on Facebook’s success.

So are you using Yahoo Pulse? Do you think Yahoo Pulse could save Yahoo the company or will it turn out to be another famous mistake by Yahoo? Do drop in your comments.

Maharashtra Government Blocks Facebook In Its Office

In the recent past, we have witnessed a lot of flak with regards to Facebook Banned in Pakistan . The reasons for the ban were cited as users being uploading images of Prophet Muhammad. Apparently, it was a religious issue and the authorities had to ban Facebook.

But, in what seems like a funny revelation, Maharashtra government has banned Facebook in the Mantralaya (Office). The reason for blocking the social networking site has been cited as Employees whiling away their time on Facebook during office hours as mentioned by a senior official,

We decided to block the site as many employees were seen spending hours on it, (Source)

As usual, the employees opposed the move and mentioned that they only used Facebook during lunch hours and their work has not suffered due to this. But, the internet department had enough of it and banned the website altogether.

Now, what made this news sound surprising and funny to me is is that the only minister I heard who did put social media to good use- Mr.Shahsi Tharoor but got lambasted for using the platform. I am not going to go into the details of that incident for obvious reasons but apart from that, do we actually have employees/ministers in the mantralaya networking with their friends or the people out there. I have my doubts but I am really curious to understand as to what they are actually doing on Facebook. 🙂

On a positive note, if the Maharashtra government has seriously taken this step to boost employee productivity, could this be taken as a sign of government going the corporate way. If not anything else, this move might set a good example in other ministries when it comes to employees making the best use of their time when they are in office.

What are your thoughts in this regard? Do you really think that Maharashtra government is right in banning Facebook at their offices? Write in your comments.

Analyze Your Facebook Status Updates With Status Statistics

We all love Social networking sites, that’s a given. Facebook even more since it gives us so much than other social networking. One of the most popularly used activity that users do on the site is Status Updates. Be it updating rants, funny one-liners, quotations or even sharing links we all update our Status on Facebook frequently.

Ever wondered if you could analyze those status updates. Well, now you can with Status Statistics

Link for the application  : Status Statistics

Launching the application is very simple,

  • Log in to your Facebook account and click the application link provided above. Alternatively, you can also search for the application from the search box on your facebook homepage with the keyword “Status Statistics”
  • As soon you launch the application, it automatically starts scanning your status updates for a given time period (last 60 days)

A few seconds of wait and voila, you get a lot of information with reference to your status updates in the given period.

Here is how the application looks after it has scanned your status updates,

As is clear from the image, the application provides a lot of information based on your status updates out of which some interesting ones are,

  • Most Popular Status: This shows your most popular status in the last 60 days (Grayed out in the image). The reasoning is based on the maximum number of comments you received on a particular status. I would have personally appreciated the inclusion of the “number of Likes” in selecting the most popular status but that’s how it is in this one
  • Your Statistics: This is more like a bulk analytical data which gives you the total status updates in that particular period, number of status updates from cell phone, the word count and average words used per status update etc. It also gives you the average number of status updates per day which could help you gauge if you are too active on Facebook with respect to status updates
  • Your Favorite Words: This gives you a laundry list of the most used words in your status updates. As is visible from the image, “http” and “bit” are used often due to link sharing using bit.ly

The application has various other features including “When do you write you statuses” which is nothing but the number of status updates made in specific hours,

Further more, you can also search for status messages based on the month and year which could pull out some old updates for nostalgic reasons. You can even search for specific keywords in your status updates if you like.

It does not end there. You can even analyze your friend’s status messages by typing in the friends name after clicking on the “Friend Stats” at the top of the application.

The application may not have any productive value to it but it can be fun to analyze your status once in a while. Give Status Statistics a shot and let us know if you like it through your comments.

Like Button Added to Facebook Comments

This has been one of the most requested feature by Facebook users and finally Facebook has added a like button for commentators on any post. Now you can simply click on like on any comments added by any oen status update and this way you can easily fin popular comments into any one status update. Specially for bloggers and webmasters this is pretty useful, as they can quickly see what people are voting for.

Facebook-comment-like-button

One thing which I still missing is Facebook unlike button, specially for comments which doesn’t make sense. At this moment we see Flag button, but unlike button will add more features to rating system of comments on Facebook. But I’m still very happy with the integration of like button in comments.

Also when some one will hit on like button on your comments, you will get notified, so get ready for more status notification and spend more time on Facebook. According to official blog announcement

So like peanut butter and jelly, we realized these two features would go better together. Starting today, most of you will see a small “Like” button appear underneath comments. We’re rolling this out gradually, so if you don’t see the new button yet you will soon.

Whether it’s a witty remark, a great point in a discussion or a helpful answer to someone’s question, clicking the “Like” button within comments now makes it simple to show your appreciation for all types of content on Facebook.

Do let us know your feedback and review about this like button on Facebook comments?

Admins can remove creators of Facebook pages

Facebook has made changes to its policy on how Facebook pages will be administered. Facebook pages will now allow admins to remove other admins including the admin who has created the page in the first place. This is a small change but a big step in the direction of Facebook pages becoming a completely independent entity without needing to be tied up to a profile.

Image: Devils’ Workshop Facebook Page

This will actually help companies have control over they Facebook pages especially if they have outsourced it to third party members to update and respond to pages. At times someone might create a page and manage it for a while but not be associated with that company anymore. In this regards it would be crucial for businesses to have the ability to remove the admin and created of the page.

Some other may not be as happy as it might mean that a person who has been given admin rights might abuse those rights and remove the creator and literally take over that page. This is where creators will have to be more sensible and thoughtful about who they want to grant the admin privilege in the first place.

Do check out Fbknol’s Facebook page.

Do you own a Facebook page? What are your views on this new change to Facebook pages admin rights? Do let us know through your views.

Teacher Nearly Kills a Boy [Facebook Spam]

In recent some incidents Facebook is highly targeted by spammers like sexiest video ever spam in recent days. These days another spam message saying

“Teacher nearly kills a 13 year old boy” or “See the Shocking video, Teacher nearly kills a boy” Spam is spreading like viral.  When ever some one click on the video link to see the video, he is redirected to application which ask for permission to allow access to your public information and update your wall.

Number of such spam applications are rising every day and specially for non-techy users it’s getting hard to differentiate between real and such scam videos. As stated by mashable

We echo Sophos’s thoughts in hoping that Facebook shuts down this app immediately and works on tightening some of the security policies that let this sort of thing through to begin with.

I agree with this thought and Facebook security is becoming a big issue, specially when Facebook subscribers are growing with great number, its high time Facebook should work more on security of Facebook users than Facebook privacy issue.
