firefox While browsing the internet, you come across several websites and might like certain images from those sites. Of course, you can save those images to your computer for later use. But if you are in surfing from an office computer or a nearby internet cafe, then there is no use in saving them offline. A simple way to collect all those pictures is by using Imageshack Transloader.

You can use this service either by installing the imageshack toolbar or by using Image transloader addon. After installing the toolbar you will have to register to imageshack so that the images you ‘transload’ will remain in your private account.

Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts to Individual Domains [Firefox Tip]

There are a few blogs and sites that I need to open plenty of times everyday. Hence, I have assigned keyboard shortcuts to each domain so that I need not type the full URL of each domain again and again. For example, I have assigned “LH” for Lifehacker, “D” for Devilsworkshop, “M” for MobileGyaan, etc and whenever I need to open Devilsworkhop, just putting the letter “D” on address-bar opens up Devilsworkshop. There are various ways of assigning such shortcuts but in this post I am going to mention the simplest way of doing this that doesn’t even need installation of any add-on.

Assigning Shortcuts to each websites:

  • firefox shortcuts Bookmark the domain on your Firefox bookmarks list that you want to assign shortcut to
  • Open Firefox bookmarks list by pressing “ctrl+b” inside Firefox, locate the domain you just bookmarked
  • Right click on the domain and click properties
  • As seen on the image, put your desired keyword and save it!

Voila, you are done! Now anytime you you need to open the site, just enter the keyword you assigned to it on your Firefox address bar and hit enter. This way you can assign shortcuts to as many sites on your bookmarks list, provided you do not use the same keyword for two different websites.

Webmail Ad Blocker: Firefox Add-on to Block Ads on Webmail Services!

A couple of weeks ago, Rosa Golijan posted a tip in Lifehacker, wherein, she mentioned a few sentences using which as Email signature massacred the Gmail ads automatically. Though it was a quite interesting tip, but it is not always practical to use an irrelevant signature on your email so that the receiver of the email may not see those distracting ads within Gmail.

You can remove such unwanted ads from your webmail service (Gmail, yahoo, etc) simply by installing a Firefox add-on – Webmail ad blocker and forget those ads forever. 😉

Ads are massacred completely only with a Firefox add-on!

Assigning Shortcuts for Searching Contents in Individual Domains [Firefox Tip]

firefox search

Many a times I need to search content only on a particular blog/site and visiting the same domain again and again becomes a tedious task. For example, while writing new posts for DW, I link back to my previous posts and I need to search only in Devilsworkshop’s search bar for this purpose as I need only the posts written here.

To make this task easy, couple of months ago, I found a cool trick (via my friend Dnyanesh) using which, you will not have to visit the domain again to search contents in it. You can assign shortcut, for example I have assigned “DW” for devilsworkshop search and whenever I need to search anything here, I just enter “DW” followed by a space and the search keyword. You too, can assign such shortcuts for searching contents in individual domain simply by following these simple steps! 😉

Steps for Assigning Search Shortcuts in Firefox:

  • Open the desired website (in Firefox) that you want to assign shortcut to and right-click on its search bar and click “add a keyword for this search”
    dw search
  • Adw1s shown on the screenshot, add a name to the search and put your desired short keyword for the particular domain
  • Voila, you are done! Now just enter the letter “DW” followed by a space and your keyword on the Firefox address bar and hit enter!

    dw search1

That ‘s it, you will immediately land on DW’s search results page with the keywords you entered even without opening this blog! 😉

How To Backup Firefox Extensions

firefoxMozilla Firefox is one my favorite web browser and its add-on feature makes it stand out from the crowd. Today I am going to tell you how to take a backup of your Firefox extensions, so that you do not need to install all the extensions again when you install fresh copy of Windows. There are two ways to take backup, one is manual and other is automatic. Lets start 🙂

Manual Way

The manual way is to download each and every extension one by one on your local hard disk and install it later. Below is a simple procedure that will tell you how to download the add-ons to your hard disk.

Search for the addon and click on big green button i.e Add to Firefox. A Window will pop up asking whether you want to install that add-on or not. Do not click on Install now but below the addon name you will see a link starting from http.
Copy that link till .xpi and use any download manger to download that xpi file.

Have a look

download addon firefox

In this way you can take backup of all the installed extensions. Now to restore them, open Firefox and press ctrl+O and open the downloaded addons and install it.

Automatic way

To backup all the Firefox extensions automatically install a Firefox addon called FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension). It allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. You can also backup and restore themes, bookmarks, preferences, cookies and much more.

Top 10 Ways To Get Huge Visitors From Stumbleupon

Get husge visitors from stumbleuponStumbleupon is one of the best social bookmarking sites in the world. You will be getting tons of visitors from it, if you uses it properly. From my experience it’s true. The main source of visitors to my blogs are referred by stumbleupon. But, in order to get huge visitors, you need to know – how to optimize and build up your blog and stumbleupon profile for getting more stumbles. I have read so many tips for it and had even created some from my experiences. I’ll describe briefly about them through this simple Guide for stumbleupon.

  1. Tag your article under correct Tags.If your tag changes, then you may won’t get the visitors who loves to read such articles and vice verse.
  2. Give great importance to the Title you gave to the stumble. It is known that stumble upon have great love towards articles named as “top 10 ____” ,”‘What is____”, “how to  _____”, “the complete list of ____” etc.
  3. Add a stumbleupon Badge to your blog posts – encourage your readers to give you one thumbs.
  4. Join in groups and create lots of friends in stumbleupon. Your community will be having great influence on the stumbles you get.
  5. Add more and more friends who are willing to help you and loves to read/stumble your articles.
  6. Send the URL of your posts directly to the browsers of your friends. Ask them a stumble in a polite way.
  7. Don’t let your friends think that you are making use of them.Instead, do favors back to them also.Read their articles.Stumble them before they tells you to do so and subscribe to his/her favorites. Let them consider the friendship with you as a mutual relationship !
  8. Make use of stumble exchanging sites like stumbleudon and suexchange. They really works in bringing you more stumbles and there by more traffic.
  9. Optimize your page loading page. Stumblers may won’t like to wait for your big page to load. They may push the button to go to another stumble !
  10. Decrease the number of ads in your post. Stumblers will get angry if you hesitate them with lots of ads. The more number of posts you have, the less stumble you gets. Remove pop-up and toolbar ads for best result.

Just try to put these tips in practice. I’m sure that there will be an increase in your page views within a week. I’ll be coming with more tips soon.

image According to StatCounter, Firefox 3.5 has quickly gained more than 2% of the US browser market since its launch, bringing the overall Firefox’s usage of the US browser market to 31.8%. This has come along in a very short span of time indeed.

This data is based on an analysis of 180 million page views (42 million from the US) for the 1st July 2009 collected from the StatCounter network of over three million websites.

US Stats

Take a look at the US stats till July 01, 2009:

  • Internet Explorer 7.0 is at 31.6 %
  • Firefox 3.0 is at 28.9%

Firefox 3.5 is officially out!

Yes, as confirmed by Mozilla, they have officially released Firefox 3.5. My earlier post detailed about the features but now you can experience all of these yourself with the public release of Firefox 3.5. If you are a Firefox fan like me, am sure, by this time, you would have already upgraded your browser. Well, here are some more interesting facts about this magnificent organic software

World wide real-time Firefox downloads is a micro site developed to showcase the amazingly fast canvas rendering capabilities of Firefox 3.5. This page uses no applets, no flash or any other plugin to render real-time firefox downloads on a world map! It actually plots graphs in real time at a lightning speed using a magical blend of server and client side magic! Try dragging/scrolling the Canvas map, its really nice work. Here is another fabulous example of what can be achieved using the canvas element and its improved rendering capabilities. This is a first person shooter game (remember Wolfestine 3D?) completely coded using JS and Canvas. Whats surprising is that the code size of this whole game is just 13.33 kb!

Had enough of the canvas element. Well, there is more to the new Firefox apart from canvas and fast rendering JS. Session Restore is one such feature. As quoted by Mozilla, “If Firefox or your computer unexpectedly closes, you don’t have to spend time recovering data or retracing your steps through the Web. If you’re in the middle of typing an email, you’ll pick up where you left off, even down to the last word you typed. Session Restore instantly brings back your windows and tabs, restoring text you entered and any in-progress downloads.”

Video tag support is what all of us were expecting, however its really amazing to watch it in action. Checkout this embeded video to understand what I mean (will work only on Firefox 3.5). Apart from a demo of the HTML5’s video tag, the video content will also give you an overview of a lot of other interesting features.
