Top 5 Facebook Pages for Products

We recently spoke about the top 10 celebrity pages on Facebook. This time the countdown is for the celebs in our routine life – the consumer goods – the life and soul of a consumerist society – Products! Our life and ‘likes’ would not be the same without these well branded goods. So lets find out the which bar code made its way up to our top 5?

  • Coca Cola: It doesn’t beat Lady Gaga, but we must acknowledge any page which has over 19,500,000 fans. The story of the Coke Facebook Fan Page is quite famous now. The page was started by two friends, Dusty and Michael, as a normal fan page for Coke. Gradually this page grew to becoming one of the most popular pages, and now is officially supported by Coca Cola as well. Its one of those pages where you can spend your Sundays watching crazy videos of the duo, get into discussions and do much more.

  • Starbucks: From a small coffee shop amidst Seattle to 18,500,000 fans, its been a long journey for Starbucks. That’s why this strong distinct flavor makes it on our top 5 countdown. On Facebook, its been quite proactive – be it a personalized application to its credit with Starbucks Check-in or managing your Starbucks subscription Card on Facebook. That’s a few brownie (pun intended) points from us.

  • Oreo: It may go perfect with your Starbucks Cafe Verona, but that is no the only reason this little cookie makes it here. I love when Facebook brings to life my day-to-day products. Oreo shares with us fun albums, recipes and much more. Much deserved place on my list with over 15,000,000 likes.

  • Converse: When it comes to the kicks, Converse wins with a cool 11,000,000+ fans, almost twice as many fans as Adidas Originals. The simple no fuss shoes hold a strong spot in my ranking as the first non-edible item (hopefully) here.

  • Facebook: It proves absolute gratitude and loyalty when the most “liked” page on Facebook is the ‘Facebook’ Page. A symbol that no one has taken it for granted. Alright, maybe few people have, but not the 28,000,000+ fans who like this page.

I consider it as the art of brilliant branding when users don’t forget to prove their love for what they use everyday.  These were my top picks for the most popular product pages on Facebook. Don’t see your favorite product page here? Drop in your opinion below and let me know your views.

Cartoon characters as profile pictures go viral on Facebook

I miss those days of childhood, when I was a kid and used to enjoy watching cartoons all day long. I could be  a Mermaid one day, a Scientist named Dexter, a dog named Goofy or my all time favorite Uncle Scrooge! Childhood memories and the feeling that you get after remembering those days can never be replaced by a party, New year or Christmas.

You must be thinking what do I mean? Well, I got a Facebook mail from one of my friends saying “For a week, change your profile picture on Facebook to one of your favorite cartoon characters from your childhood. The aim of the game? To not see human heads on Facebook but a true invasion of childhood memories. :)” You must be seeing all kind of cartoon characters on Facebook profile picture. This is it. Why not use such time of the year and enjoy what you enjoyed the most some time ago.

Facebook-cartoon

Such things on Facebook surely keeps one self busy. These little things in Facebook can make your day. No matter if its Cartoon picture or a breast awareness thing going on, it does spread the message to most of the people around. Facebook is ahead in the market of social networking due to such things. It brings out emotions on a rather plain day!

So, replace your profile photographs with one of the Cartoon character you loved the most, when you were a kid. It’s quite a treat to see all those characters now, when you do not have time for any other thing than work. Enjoy this Black friday and Thanksgiving time.

I was always amazed with uncle Scrooge so I am going to put his picture as my profile photo. Who is your favorite cartoon character? Will you change your photo for a week or just ignore this? Share your views with me through the comments below.

[Update] The event has been extended to 6 December 2010, so that even more people are aware. This is to raise a voice against child abuse by NSPCC. Do you think by changing our profile pictures to a cartoon character will raise an awareness to stop child abuse?

Facebook status updates as a diary of your life [Video]

I had a crazy idea the other day. What if I went through all my Facebook status updates ever since the day I joined? Since I’ve been too lazy to actually keep up a diary, Facebook was probably the only way I could sit back and read about my journey through the past couple of years.

Then my narcissistic mood went up a notch higher. How about I made a little film of these status updates? Wouldn’t that be something fun to share with my grandchildren one day? 😛

A film about my status updates!

Status updates over time show trends about you and your friends, things you’ve gone through and much more. Interests like movies, music or ‘likes’ can also give you a glimpse of one’s general philosophy in life.

My status updates showed me my obsession – my dog. My friends had warned me that its crossing the limit but I never really got that till I actually sat to make this little film :P. May be if you try to narrow down your updates, you will find out your obsession as well.

Try looking up your status updates and get more information about yourself like your relationship status over past months, crazy predictions made by Facebook applications, etc. Let me know what you think about this idea through your comments.

4 Must Use Google Chrome Extensions for Facebook Users

Google Chrome has come up with few amazing extensions for making time you spend on Facebook more enjoyable. Here are few of my favorites:

#1. Facebook Photo Zoom

We all get irritated when a friend uploads new photos and to view them we need to go to their album and view each one individually. With the Facebook Photo Zoom add-on, you can simply place your cursor on the photo and preview the zoomed in version.

#2. The Facebook For Google Chrome add-on

The Facebook For Google Chrome add-on allows you to view your news feed and updates as a separate attachment on your Chrome browser. That means you no longer need to open a new tab to view your Facebook news feed, you can continue to browse the web and simultaneously check out any news feed updates which is quite a time saver.

#3. Facebook To-Go

Facebook To-Go is another similar add-on which notifies you when you have a new notification as well as allows you to get access to your wall, home and settings. I feel this one is definitely a better bet over The Facebook For Google Chrome add-on.

#4. Facebook Share

Facebook Share is one of my favorite Facebook extensions. Usually when I’m browsing there are so many times I want to share a particular link with my friends and now I can do that with just one click. With this add-on, when I come across a page I want to share on Facebook, I can do so with just one click on this add-on.

I am quite thrilled with these fun extensions because they save my time and allow me to do other things while still being on Facebook. The best part about these Chrome add-ons is that you don’t need to restart your browser.

If you want to see any more of the Facebook extensions for Chrome, then check them out here. Let me know what you think of these add-ons through your comments.
