Coral-200-Solar: First Solar Powered Mobile

Coral-200-Solar” is the first mobile phone equipped with solar battery. The model was launched by Digicel, but it has been produced by a China based company – ZTE.

Unfortunately the producer has not given much details about the technical specifications of the solar powered phone, but being a mobile for people with small budgets, the model does not supports much features. Coral-200-Solar is a candy-bar type phone with standard alphanumeric keypad.

From the images here, it can be clearly seen that the screen is very small (1.5 inches). But the most important advantage of this mobile remains the solar battery which you can see on the back panel of the phone. The company representatives said that, in the world, there are over two billion people without access to electricity sources and and Coral-200-Solar is for the rescue of such peoples those who have access to mobile networks but could not charge them because of unavailability of electricity.

Added by Editor: As this phone is produced by ZTE – A Chinese company and marketed by a New Zealand based company- Invitation, its not yet confirmed when this phone will be made available in India and other countries. But its for sure that, soon, there will be some local producers cloning such solar power operated cell phones and producing them to cope up the needs of their local market.

Now Easily Sync Contacts of your Mobile Phone with Google Account!

Syncing all your details on mobile handsets with computers have become really very important to avoid any accidental loss of data (especially contacts, memos and messages) on your phone. If you have ever lost your mobile phone or come across any software issues, then you must be knowing how important it is to make a backup of all the datas on a secure place.

Though you can easily take a back-up of all the data on your PC using the softwares that come along with the mobile handset, but what if the data on your PC too gets deleted? Recently, Google have come up with a new service – Google Sync using which you can sync all data of your mobile with your Google account and vice versa using GPRS on your phone.

Supported Devices:

  • Apple iPhone
  • Blackberry
  • Nokia s60 & s40 phones
  • Sony Ericsson
  • Windows Mobile

The complete step-by-step procedure on syncing your devices is mentioned here.

Though I could not test out this service personally as am using a palm based handset which is not supported for this service, but to me it seems to be very useful service and of course reliable too, as its being provided by Google. 🙂 If any one have used it, then let us know your reviews about this service.

Thanks Johnson for the tip. 🙂

Browsershots – Online Web Design Testing in Different Browsers

This article is for web designers here. I recommend this articles to all bloggers as well. Many bloggers go for free third-party themes which may not follow standards all the time, so you can check if theme you are using is working fine in all major browsers.

Reason for highlighting major in above line is, no matter which theme you choose or code, it will not render properly in decade old browsers unless you are writing plain old HTML without any CSS or JavaScript.

As a (good) habit, I used to test any of my web design from Firefox 2/3, Internet Explorer 6/7, Safari 3.1, Opera 9.5 and Google Chrome. These browsers make most of the browser market share, so we can safely assume that our web design will render well from most of the browsers.

Now those who want to be sure about it, such for corporate projects or working on a platform where you can not install all famous browsers, like IE 6 and above on Mac, you can use Browsershots.

At Browsershots, you just need to specify URL of a webpage and select list of browsers. They have around 70+ browsers in total to select from and you can select them all if you are serious about your design.

I personally select only browsers which are important as larger list often take time upto 2/3 hours to process. You can download all screenshots captured by Browsershots at once or view them online as well.

Downloading is recommended as they do not store them on their server for long time. This service is free and so it has limitations. You can capture around 100 screenshots only per day per site. Paid users get higher limit as well as more priority which means they don’t have to wait for hours to get their capturing job done.

Browsershots is a good service but you can not test many things like JavaScript effects, tabbed navigation using it. So use Browsershots alongwith few top browsers on your desktop to test your web design perfectly.

Open Signed Online – Get Symbian Apps Signed for Free [Mobile]

In past, whenever I wrote any post for symbian OS mobiles, I recieved many comments/mails saying that SIS files I referred cannot be installed. The problem was many of them was unsigned. While few people turn-off certificate (signed) verification, rest either don’t know how to do it or need a signed version for some reason.

First how to turn-off sign checking…

Go into menu > tools > settings > applications > app.manager. Turn software installation to all and online certificate check to off.

This may vary little depending on your handset model. But the process is similar. This will allow you to use any app that hasn’t been digitally signed.

Next how to get a symbian app signed online…

There is an Open Signed program, currently in beta, which do signing job for symbian application. Its free but have few limitation and also note the restrictions before using the service.

The service is quite simple to use. Just enter your handsets IMEI number, email address, and upload the unsigned SIS file. You will get it signed.

Thanks Manish for sharing this via a comment.
