LG’s G-Slate: Do we have the iPad killer? [Video]

Until about a year ago when you thought of the words “Tablet Computer” we immediately thought of obscure tablet models from HP. Today when someone talks about a tablet device, we think only about Apple’s iPad. Such is the power of Apple as a brand. It usually has complete domination over their niche.

The tablet seems to have the goods and as you can see in the video below, it will have two cameras which will record in 3-D format.

iPad killer or a just another tablet?

The big question will be how will it compare with Apple’s iPad. I think it will all depend on the goodies that iPad 2 will have. LG’s G-Slate could be a real threat to other tablet computers out there. I guess RIM better pull up it socks.

Here is a video about LG G-Slate on YouTube.

What do you think about LG’s G-Slate? Will it be compete or will it be brushed aside by iPad? Do drop in your comments.

The journey of the Computer Mouse [TDIS]

The Mouse is considered to be an integral part of a Computer with most of the functions requiring the Mouse to be executed. A Laptop computer comes with a Touchpad however many people still find the Traditional mouse more comfortable. Today’s mouse is result of the continuous development and evolution which happened since 1963 when the prototype of the first Mouse was developed by Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute with his colleague Bill English.

It was not later than 1972 when Bill English (the co-inventor of the First mouse) build the Mechanical Ball mouse while working at XEROX PARC. This mouse had a Roller ball to move easily over a smooth surface.

Eventually with further Technological advancements, Roller ball mouse was replaced with Optical mouse which uses a light-emitting diode and photodiodes to detect any movement. This is easy to use than the ball mouse as there is no requirement of any kind of fixed surface. Due to no physical contact with the surface, this kind of mouse has a much longer life when compared with its ancestor kind. Hence it is one of the widely used mouse today.

What else was left has already come to the market, and is replacing the Optical and roller ball mouse pretty quickly. It is the wireless Optical mouse which uses Infrared / radio waves (even Bluetooth) to transmit signals to the computer when it detects movement. The receiver is usually a small device connected to the computer using the Serial port or USB. This kind of mouse requires additional battery (even rechargeable) for operation.

Cheapest 3G Data card in India for just Rs. 1300!

We all know about data cards available from Tata DoCoMo, BSNL and Reliance, however what we don’t know is that Data cards are nothing more than Mobile phones without their screen, keypad and other features. 😀

Then why they are sold for such high costs, sometimes even more than the costs of good mobile phones available in the market?

Reliance and Tata have always been selling their Data cards for about Rs. 2500-3000 with BSNL presently selling their 3G Data card (upto 7.2 Mbps) for Rs. 2500 (that too after a discount!). Finally two Indian students from Bhubaneswar in Odisha (formerly Orissa) have announced their latest innovation, a 3G data card for just Rs. 1300. The data card is presently not available in the market, however it is trying to tie up with biggies like Future Group to make its presence in the huge Indian market.

Some Features of the Data card

  • Supports almost all network bands like WCDMA/UMTS 2100MHZ/EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHZ.
  • Download Speeds upto 7.2 Mbps (HSDPA) and upload speeds upto 384 Kbps (HSUPA).
  • It comes with High speed 2.0 USB connectivity.
  • Supports any GSM/3G-based SIM card.
  • Send and receive SMS also
  • Works with almost all Operating systems including Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7, Linux/Mac.
  • The datacard even supports Flash memory upto 4GB.
  • Few sources claim that the datacard can even support upto 21.1 Mbps download connectivity though it has not been tested yet.

The innovators even claim that they can bring down the cost of the Data card to only Rs. 900 if they receive any support from the Government to manufacture on a large-scale. They are even expecting this to generate large-scale direct/in-direct employment.

Let me know if you have already found any store where the iWebLeaf 3G data card is available. Guys, I am missing your comments. Do post them! It hardly takes a minute after all 🙂

iBand – Live Music Show Using Apple’s iPhone/iPad Gadgets!

I have many friends who own a iPhone or a fancy iPod. I am personally not much of a fan of Apple and that can be probably because of my ignorance. I must confess that all my friends who have Apple products are die-hard fans. I came across this video online and realized why Apple products actually rock. They simply have this great ability to surprise everyone with their various features.

iBand – Live Music Show

Below is a video of a band called North Point which calls itself iBand. 🙂

The video consists of a live music performance where they are singing ‘Merry Christmas’ using Apple devices like iPhones and iPad.

Atomic Tom – “Take me out” -Live on NYC Subway

This is the second time I have been amazed by such innovative use of Apple gadgets. Another was a video which showed a group creating music on their iPhones. This video was also among the top 5 tech related videos watched on YouTube in 2010. This performance is almost as good as any with real instruments.

Closer home AR Rahman, the music maestro from Chennai, India also demonstrates a small music demo on this favourite iPad application.

What do you think about Apple products and the apps that allow such innovation? Also do you think the regular musical instruments will change into applications on a tablet in the future! I sure hope that guitars do last out the tablets. It is a little difficult to think of a Rock musician singing to a crowd of 50,000 holding a iPad. 🙂

Is this the future of our television sets? Sony unveils Google TV powered sets

A few days ago Google TV was launched as a product. Google TV has started a new revolution some would say. The revolution diversifying into television from the internet. I do not think that is the case. I think Google believes (probably rightly) that television coverage will be through the internet. YouTube’s success must have convinced Google.

So now that leaves the hardware manufacturer. Sony has just unveiled their new Google TV enabled line of internet televisions sets.

How will Sony’s Google TV work?

The new Sony device will have 4 USB 2.0 slots on the side along with an Ethernet connection at the back. It will work through the internet using the Google TV platform to show and control the content.

I was wondering if it is practical for people to buy a new Television which runs Google TV only. I think it can be hooked up like a normal TV set but not sure if the software inside will be compatible.

You can view all the features and specifications here.

Remote Control resembling a mini-keypad…

Here is how the remote of the new Sony device will look like. It seems quite neat and just by looking at the keys and various options, we can assume that Google TV will have a lot of options and tremendous potential.

Sony has been an old player in the television manufacturing business and has probably guessed rightly that the future of TV sets is through the internet. But it is Google which might end up not just helping us search for addresses and maps online but also helping us search shows, movies and live sports action.

Windows 7 phone has been released to compete with iPhone and Android. I wonder if we will soon see Microsoft TV. I think if this happens it will be good for competition.

So take a look at the video which explains how Google TV will power a Sony set and let me know your views on if this is what all our televisions sets in the future will be like? Do drop in your comments.
