Hide recipients address while sending group e-mail

This is a trick I personally use and I am sure, you too would like to give it a try after reading the whole article. Though I am using this trick for quite long time, but just now it hit my mind to let the world know about this trick.

Well, you may have received some mails wherein the mail id on ‘To’ field is that of the sender or some one else but not yours and you may be wondering how come you received the mail when the recipient id is not yours. So this is a quite simple trick that many of us use while sending group email. This is usually done so that others identity may not be disclosed. So let me come to the point and disclose the procedure to send undisclosed identity mails. 😉

As usual compose an Email, on the ‘To’ field either enter your own mail id or the one you can disclose to all recipients. Now enter all those ids that you want not to disclose on the ‘BCC’ field. That’s it! You are done 🙂 By this, all will receive the mail but the addresses mentioned on the ‘BCC’ field will not be visible to anyone except to the person entered on the ‘To’ field.

So, the next time while sending greetings to a group of people, do not forget to use this trick. 🙂

ISRO Bhuvan: To be Google Earth’s competitor

Recently, news paper articles were flooded with the term "ISRO Bhuvan" and it was quite annoying for me to see the same term everywhere in my feed reader as well. Finally I too wanted to know, what exactly ISRO’s Bhuvan is? The answer to this question was quite interesting.. I came to know that Bhuvan is a competitor for Google Earth and would provide services similar to Google Earth and Wikimapia but it will be confined only within India.

But there is something special in Bhuvan that keeps Google Earth and Wikimapia aside. Bhuvan will have a greater zooming efficiency that will help you recognize details upto a 3 storey building and all its data will be updated every year, unlike Google and Wikimapia which updates in every 4 years.

As per an article in TOI:

Bhuvan allows you to zoom far closer than the aerial view from a chopper. If Google Earth shows details upto 200 meters distance and Wikimapia upto 50 meters, Bhuvan will show images upto 10 meters, which means you can easily see details upto a three floor high building and also add information.

It has also came to light that, unlike others, Bhuvan will support multi layer viewing with a option to view on past dates. Finally I would feel proud to say that Bhuvan is going to use Indian satellites. 🙂

Also, at the Indian National Cartographic Association (INCA) International Congress it was said that:

The prototype of Bhuvan will be ready by the end of November and ISRO is hoping to officially launch the service by March next.

So, we will have to wait for another couple of months to see it live. 🙂

Choosing the appropriate domain name before starting a blog or website is damn tiring. Registering a new domain, would surely create chaos on your mind. Choosing an appropriate extension like .com, .net, .org is another headache. Even after choosing an appropriate extension for your domain you’ll have to tinker whether those domains are available or not. And the whole process is time consuming too. So, today I have a list of few websites where in you can check the availability of bulk domains, all what it takes is just a single mouse click. 🙂 Though the use of these websites looks quite silly, it may really be useful while registering a new domain.

Just make a list of your preferred domains and enter all of them on the websites listed below.
Now this bulk domain checker will check out whether your preferred domains are available or not, that to with with multiple extensions.

The former one is preferred over the later, because it has an option to check with a large number of extensions.

Recently, on an English daily, I read about Bill Gates visit to India. I was wondering whether he have any specific plans behind the India tour? In the mean while I came to know, at IIT Delhi, he announced about his new initiative – Dreamspark wherein he is going to offer free Microsoft software for all technical students in India.

I happened to stumble over this cool and interesting service which claims to provide services to schedule your outgoing E-mails to be sent at a future point of time. This service named LetterMeLater is really useful for all those people who finds it hard to remember an event or unable to come online, just to send an E-mail. For example sending greetings, appointments letters, invitations, etc. For the rescue of such peoples, LetterMeLater has come up with this innovation. Truly speaking, since long, I too was wondering whether we can schedule emails or not, and now I am happy to find such an interesting website. 🙂

Once you register on this site, you can even schedule mails right from your primary email id’s ‘compose’ option. All you need to do is add some specific keywords and the date or time that the mail should be sent on. Detailed step-by-step guide is here.

Customizing links of your social networking profiles

In the last couple of years, the use of social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook & Orkut boomed over the Internet. Many people started meeting each other using these social networks and in the mean while, profiles on these sites became the real identity in this virtual world. For instance, few days ago, when I had a talk with one of my childhood friend, she asked me my profile link on Orkut and to my dismay, I was having nothing to answer her. 🙁

You all must be aware that, social networking sites (like Orkut) does not provide a short profile URL which you can memorize easily. And hence, you always need to copy-paste your profile URL whenever a friend asks you for it. To solve this problem, today I am writing a short guide to customize URL of your social networking profiles.

Well there are 2 easy ways to do that:

The first is, make use of some services that provide a facility to shorten your URL
Alternatively, you can register a free domain (some of them listed here) and divert them to your actual profile pages.

A step by step guide, to use both the procedure are mentioned below:

Procedure 1:

For Orkut users: locaworld.com. Just visit this site, enter your Orkut profile or community link and your desired id.
( Example of customized links that I created are- djain.locaworld.com and dw.locaworld.com )

p align=”justify”>For Facebook users: faceto.us. Same step is to be followed as done in the previous case.
( Example: faceto.us/djain )

p align=”justify”>As mentioned, above procedure is the simplest possible way and can be done even by a rookie 🙂 But the only disadvantage is that, I am unable to find any such service for other social networks like Myspace and Hi5 🙁
If you do know any such site, please let us know.

Procedure 2:

p align=”justify”>Register a domain, at some free domain providers (Preferred one is CO.CC) and divert it to your actual profile pages.
I’ve done that by by creating my own domain- djain.co.cc and diverted it to my Orkut home page 🙂
By using the second method, your profile links can be shortened further and can also be used for other networking sites like Myspace & Hi5. The only point in using this method is, it is bit clumsy and takes few hours to get the whole thing done 🙁

I’m going to share some of my favorite free URL redirection services that provide free short URLs which look exactly like a paid domain name. There are many services that can convert a long URL into a shorter one like Tinyurl, bit.ly, etc but they are limited for single links. Three services listed below give you free domain names (actually subdomains) which you can use for your websites or blog hosted on free service like blogspot.com!

#1 co.cc Domains

co.cc is one of my favorite free domain service since it is lot more than a URL shortener. Domain name formats they provide is like www.yourdomain.co.cc. You can register upto 2 domains with a single account. You will get full control over domain management. They provide DNS and MX services too. So, you can either use the regular URL forwarding or frame forwarding (doesn’t show ur original link in address bar) or you can use these DNS services and add CNAMEs in your domain. CNAME control means you can use Google apps and so you can have your own email id like mail@yourdomain.co.cc rather than the usual yourname@gmail.com or yourname@yahoo.com.

#2 co.nr Domains

co.nr is not so special as co.cc but are in the market for long. They provide free domain name in the form www.yourdomain.co.nr and it can be used for either URL redirection for another domain or any long web URL. They also support meta tags and provide favicon support. The only problem with this service is that we need to provide a link back to their site from our homepage or where we redirect this URL or else the service will be deactivated momentarily.

#3 .tk Domains

DOT.TK domains are also used for url forwarding i.e to convert any web URL into the form www.yourdomain.tk . In addition to the normal URL forwarding they also provide mail forwarding where in we can choose upto 250 mail aliases to be forwarded to your mail account. For example, you can forward mail@yourdomain.tk or info@yourdomain.tk into your personal mail account. Earlier, they used to have a banner ad at the top of the window but now they have removed the ads completely which makes this service more attractive. The only problem now is all domain names that receive less than 25 hits per 90 days will be removed from your account.

There are a lot more free domain services but these are the only ones without any ads and they provide domains which are more or less similar to paid domains. I’Il write more on the other services in my next post. What are you waiting for? Register your free domain now.
