Facebook introduces Bigger and Faster photos!

Facebook once again changes it’s album photo size and the way Facebook shows it. The photos are now bigger and finally Facebook changed it’s black background photo viewer. The new size for the Facebook photos are 960 pixels (earlier it was 720 pixels) that means the new bigger photos are really that big! It’s gonna cover your whole screen so that person who’s viewing it will focus on the pic only as it will cover everything else on the page.

In the pic above you can see the difference between a 720 pixel and 960 pixel pictures. (For comparison only, not actual size).

The second change is that the photos now will be loaded faster with it’s new viewer. Also they changed the black background as we see in the current viewer. The new viewer will have a white background and the image will cover whole screen hiding the things in background.

Other options of Photo viewer are still the same. You still can’t right click on the photos and you have to click ‘download’ for saving a picture to your desktop. Please note that this feature is not available for everyone yet and Facebook will be rolling out this to everyone within next few days.

Do share your reviews with us. 🙂

Facebook copies features from Google+ in it’s new design [Leaked]

A moment ago, Facebook launched it it’s new design with lot’s of changes in it’s theme. This new interface is good and isn’t irritating like it’s older design changes. But somehow I feel that Facebook copied things from Google+ which is a recently launched Social Networking website from Google.

Like Google plus, Facebook also started showing bigger pictures in it’s news feed. Pictures uploaded by you or even those pics on which you have commented or liked. Also there’s a new ‘This is a Highlight’ feature which will move that post to top posts. Let’s have a look at all the changes in new Facebook design.

  1. No option of switching between ‘Recent Posts’ and Top Posts’. It shows RECENT STORIES by default and once you will refresh the page it will show ‘Stories From The Last 5 Days’.
  2. Just like Google+, Facebook is not showing the space for sharing status by default. You have to click on the option ‘Share: Status’ first and then it’s will be opened.
  3. New option of ‘This is a Highlight’. If you select this option for a post it will be shown in Top Posts to you and other mutual users. That means every post is a highlighted post in ‘Stories From The Last 5 Days’.

  4. Little change in the way events are shown, now click on an event won’t open it in a new window, rather it will show a small tab in the same page. In case of birthdays, this tab will show space to wish birthdays directly on that person’s wall.

  5. New Ticker, In this ticker your friend’s updates will be shown just like a news channel shows ‘breaking news’ on bottom of the channel. Again this will not be opened in a new window, it’ll just open a temporary small tab. (See the image below).

  6. Again a feature copied from Google+, Facebook started showing images uploaded by you, those you have liked or commented. Also the size of these images is comparable to those in Google plus and it’ll be opened in the black window like Facebook used to show.

  7. A minor change, Facebook moved some of it’s links from footer to it’s sidebar. These links are Advertising · Careers · Privacy · Terms · Help · English (US) and Facebook © 2011.

These are some changes in the new Facebook design, please inform me if I missed anything. And don’t forget to tell us whether you liked the new design or not?

Note: Please note that Facebook is still testing this design and it’s not available to everyone yet.

Facebook launches two new security feature for “Facebook Mobile”

“Facebook”- a website that takes user privacy seriously just launched two new features for those who uses Facebook from mobile. Well not the Facebook applications like “Facebook for Blackberry” and “Facebook for iPhone” but for those who uses m.facebook.com. These features are, “Mobile Social Reporting” and “Mobile Password Reset” Let’s have a look at them.

1. Mobile Social Reporting:

Social Reporting is a feature by which you can directly report something on Facebook that you don’t like and tell the person who uploaded that to remove it. This is a nice feature but people hardly takes the stuff down mostly because they do not know the person who’s reporting personally. Facebook is now testing this feature on m.facebook.com and will be available to all the profiles soon.

2. Mobile Password Reset:

Earlier if you weren’t able to login to your Facebook profile, you had to login to your Facebook profile from a PC and reset your password. But now you can reset your password straight from your phone using it’s browser. In case somebody hacked your profile or you forgot your password you can reset it using your mobile phone by entering either your e-mail or phone number or your Facebook username. Soon this feature will also be launched for all the Facebook profiles as well.

But these feature’s are not going to make any major difference in user experience. Reporting stuff hardly works on Facebook and very few people tries to reset their password from phone, first they always check from a PC that why can’t they login to their profile. 😛

Facebook adds new ‘preview’ of link in comments

Facebook just launched a new feature which is to show a preview of the link that we share in comments. It’s obviously a good feature but good for spammers as well. This ‘preview’ of the page contains in a link shows a small randomly selected picture, which makes the comment as well as the link attractive so spammers can take advantage of it by using attractive pictures in a link so that more and more users will click it.

This ‘preview’ of links is working on comments made on a profile, page or a group. All you need to do is type a link including the http:// part and hit enter. It will automatically select a image from the shared link. Check out the screen shot below.

You can see the additional information with the link like a pic, blog’s name and info. There’s also an option of ‘remove preview’ as you can see above. Clicking on that link will remove the preview and only link will be shared like it used to be.

Facebook Becomes The Numero Uno Social Networking Site In India

It has finally happened. While there have been numerous discussions on the astronomical growth of Facebook in India, in the latest internet traffic reports released by Comscore, Facebook has taken the top spot as the most visited Social Networking site in India.

The comscore reports throws some really interesting insights into the social networking adoption in India,

  • Indian social networking audience has increased by 43% over the past year
  • India now ranks as the 7th largest market for Social network globally
  • The total internet audience in India has only grown by 13% annually but the social networking audience has grown as much as three times

These facts suggest exciting times for the social networking marketplace in India. The comscore report has also provided a list of popular social networking sites in India

Source

The list features some predictable names like Facebook, Twitter and Orkut. Infact, Facebook is growing at a breakneck speed as is visible in the %change column

The numbers are definitely encouraging from the perspective of adoption of social networking in India. Moreover, these numbers also hint at an increasing target market for digital marketers to tap into. We are already seeing the presence of key B2C brands on social media platforms . Even the B2B brands have boarded the ship and IT Services sector has been increasing its digital footprint through twitter and Facebook. How these brands are leveraging the medium is a whole different story altogether but the growth of social networking in India is happening and its happening real fast.

What do you think the future holds as far as the social networking traffic in India is considered. Where Facebook and Twitter are expected to continue their growth, is there scope for a localized social networking website to cause disruption.

Airtel Users Can Now Access Facebook Free For 2 Months

Bharti Airtel has  made accessing Facebook free for its subscribers, albeit for a two month period. The move tops almost every other option available for accessing facebook on mobile for free. If you remember, Facebook had recently launched a very basic version 0.facebook.com primarily for mobile access for free. Using o.facebook.com users can access their facebook accounts, view and update status messages without incurring any data charges. However, there was one little problem with this – o.facebook.com does not provide viewing and updating of images. So, if anyone wants to view and update images via o.facebook.com, data charges apply.

However, Airtel has gone one up and actually provided free access to m.facebook.com itself, the mobile version of Facebook. What this means is that Airtel users can get the complete experience including images at no extra cost. The service is free for 2 months and will last till August 31.

How to access m.facebook.com for free on Airtel

If you are already use mobile internet on your Airtel connection, all you need to do is log on to m.facebook.com and start accessing your facebook account without worrying about data charges.

If you are going to use mobile internet for the first time on your Airtel connection, here are the steps you need to follow,

  • SMS ‘FACEBOOK’ to 54321
  • Enter your e-mail address and password
  • That’s it. You can start browsing your facebook account using m.facebook.com without paying a single penny during July and August

This sure looks like a win-win move for Airtel and Facebook. Facebook has a huge user base in India and with Airtel providing free access for limited time, it can both result in increase in subscribers for Airtel and also increased adoption of its mobile internet services which will go a long way in increasing revenues for Airtel.

Do you have a Airtel connection? Give the service a try and let us know your feedback.

Facebook’s new impression count for page admins

Recently our editor Aditya posted about Facebook sending page reports to admins and now they have started showing posts insights with every single posts for you pages. That means now you can get stats for every single posts you publish which can be a status update, a link, video or even a single image you share.

If you admin a page then post something and you will see “Post Insights not yet available, please check back later.” line attached with your post and after some time it will start showing the total number of impressions and a percentage feedback. Here number of impressions is the number of clicks on that posts by it’s fans and percent feedback is the total number of interactions i.e comments and likes as compared to the other posts of that page. By percentage feedback we can judge the quality of particular content.

Obviously this feature is very useful for those who have genuine pages for their business to track the user’s need but this feature isn’t available for every page right now. Hopefully they will launch it completely soon. What do you think about this new feature? Tell us, drop a comment below.

Facebook’s new retweet like ‘via’ feature is now active

You might be familiar with  the share button of Facebook by which you can share any post on facebook posted by your friends, any group or a page. But the main disadvantage of this feature was that the original contributor was not shown with the shared content. Facebook has modified it a little and this new ‘via’ feature is now active which is just similar to the retweet button of twitter.

Now whenever you share something on Facebook by clicking on the share button you which see ‘via person’s name/group name/page name along with the original content in the pop-up shown while sharing.

Unlike  retweet option, the best part of this via feature is that the original contributor’s name can be removed when not required. By using this via feature, the name of the person/group or page will be shown with the original post and proper link to the profile so that the actual person can be tracked easily.

So what do you think about this new feature? 🙂

Time to open your FarmVille holiday presents :D

The wait is finally over and it’s the time to open all your Blue, Pink, Green, Red and Brown holiday special presents that you collected in ‘Holiday Tree’ of FarmVille. The ‘Holiday Tree’ which is having a capacity of 100 gifts is having all your gifts that you received from your friends but you can’t open them as these are meant for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.

Just few minutes back I opened few of my presents. The gifts I got are good and useful but mostly are just for decoration of your farm. Out of thirty there were around 10-15 golden soldiers and silver ornament but I wan not able to  open other gifts and neither you can as the gift box’s capacity is of 30 gifts at a time. So you have to open few presents and then either place it in your farm or store them in store house. The best present I got was the 5 containers of fuel that is very useful for harvester, seeder or tractor.

To open your presents just click on the ‘Holiday Tree’ and select look inside. You have to open present one by one. The presents can still be sent or received till 7th of January. So like regular FacebooKnol readers if you want to get a free present everyday on FarmVille just read this [Easiest way to get a free farmville gift everyday].

Also sorry for infrequent updates of this blog for this month of December but from now you will get super articles about Facebook regularly. 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy Facebooking 😉
