Want to Message Mark Zuckerberg? Pay Facebook $100!

Imagine you want to send a message to Mark Zuckerberg and make sure the message is not ignored. What would be the best way? According to Facebook it might be forking out US $100. Facebook is not exactly so desperate for money. They are testing a new feature.

Currently when one of your friends or followers send you a message. The messages usually end up in the Inbox. But there is also the “Other Inbox” which is often not noticed by users. The Other Inbox can be seen when as a discreet link on your messages page.

The Other folder contains usually messages from people who are not your friends. This is a way to help very popular users from being spammed by their followers and fans.

Facebook was testing what could be highest amount set for making sure a message goes to the Inbox rather than the Other folder. It is expected to charge a lot less for normal (less famous) users. This is an extension of the feature that allows users to promote their posts for a small fee.

Promoted Messages and Update: Are they Ethical?

Though it makes sense for brands to promote their messages or updates by paying Facebook a small amount. This will ensure more certainty in reaching their fans and customer base. But is this feature really ethical? I am not really comfortable that Facebook is asking money to ensure people who send me mail which I have to check.

Imagine the outrage it would cause if Gmail or Hotmail suggests that if users could pay them some extra money and they would ensure that their emails do not get filtered and ensure it hits the main Inbox.

The feature is still being tested and so we cannot comment on all aspects of how it works. What you seen such prompts for making payments while sending a message? Do drop in your comments.

Though there have always been rumours in the past that Facebook was getting into the search business. Facebook already handles 1 billion search queries, but it’s search features are hardly useful.

A Facebook search engine, could mean a lot more headaches to Google, which at the moment is not exactly setting the world on fire with Google+ in terms of popularity.

Why a Facebook search engine makes sense?

Facebook is a social network where people connect, share updates, photos and videos. At best people use Facebook search for finding their friends or even trending topics.

For making money, Facebook will have to serve up results to questions like best local restaurants or shops. Facebook has all the data to know personalized data like that

This gives Facebook a great deal of data to give great search related results.

But it will work for Facebook, only if it gets search right and currently even Bing is not exactly gaining much ground against Google despite pouring in billions into it.

Mark Zuckerberg shows his funny side on SNL

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg showed up on Saturday Night Live to do an comedy act with his reel life counter-part Jesse Eisenberg from the film ‘The Social Network’.

Mark Zuckerberg has criticized his depiction in the film ‘The Social Network’ suggesting that Hollywood does not get the fact that geeks create things because they just want to and not because of the money involved.

In the skit Jesse Eisenberg and Andy Samberg who both have depicted Mark Zuckerberg were cracking jokes on the show. This was when the real Mark Zuckerberg is shown complaining he should go on the show as he invented ‘poking’.

Mark Zuckerberg kept an amused expression and confirmed he had seen the film. He also went on to call it ‘interesting’.

I guess Zuckerberg thought, it is better to accept his depiction in the film and not sound like a man with no sense of humor. Also having their CEO show up on the iconic SNL must be mean good publicity for Facebook.

Was Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook profile Hacked?

Later in the night yesterday some people saw weird updates on the Facebook’s CEO profile. Well, TechCrunch reported about it followed with other blogs and many comments.

As you can see in the image above there were almost 1800+ comments and likes. People just jumped into comments and there was nothing that could stop them! 🙂

If the news is to be believed then it has been hacked. I wonder if Facebook security cannot afford to save their maker’s profile then what is the use ?Will it ever be able to save any other person’s profile?

On the other hand side, the original profile of Mark Zuckerberg is facebook.com/Zuck and this appears to be facebook.com/MarkZuckerberg which is  no longer available. (I tried to have a look at it) There can be many reasons, may be somebody just created a fake account and did all this just to create news or make it hype.

We don’t know the truth yet, but this surely has made news and many people will be afraid to have a Facebook profile now. 🙂 What do you think?

What is the truth according to you? Do drop in your comments.
