According to TOI, the government is keeping an eye on the “misuse” of social networking sites by anti-national elements in Jammu and Kashmir and northeast in India.
After the Egypt’s revolution it may be India now. 🙂 Defence minister AK Antony on Thursday said
We are aware some people are misusing these networks…we will put proper safeguards in place, take corrective action. But we are not for taking any hasty decision.

Facebook adds two new relationship status ,”in a civil union” and “in a domestic partnership”.
Yeah Facebook now gives you a freedom to choose from different relationship status. Earlier there were only married, in a relationship , engaged etc. The option for civil unions or domestic partnerships is only available to Facebook users in the US, Canada, the UK, France and Australia now.
Facebook people also said that these options were made for the region that have asked for it. Response will be seen and monitored and slowly these options will be rolled out to all.

President Obama met with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO – Facebook  on Thursday, February 17 during his San Francisco trip.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, along with Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and Oracle founder and CEO Larry Ellison were also invited for the dinner on Thursday night. The main aim for this meeting was about Job creation and Innovation.

Facebook earned a profit of $600 million in the year 2010. 🙂 That is a nice number !
Facebook generated about $250 million of net income in the fourth quarter of 2010. Facebook profited $355 million over 2010’s first 9 months. So, if we add the two that makes a total of $600 million. 🙂
With this growth there is chance that Facebook Inc will be generating an amount of $2 billion in 2011. And there are chances that it will overcome that also, it will surpass $4 billion in 2011.

Yes its true, now your new GSM cell phone will be having Facebook built-in. Gemalto has created the first SIM card including functions related to the social network.
He has managed to get Facebook running on a SIM chip, making every GSM phone a Facebook phone and bringing social networking to the simplest of handsets. A spokesperson for the social network confirmed the development via email. He said,
We worked closely with Gemalto on their Facebook for SIM product and believe it will be another easy and affordable way for people to stay connected through Facebook on the mobile phone of their choice. Facebook for SIM creatively combines technologies from some of our existing mobile solutions that especially are attractive for people with feature phones and have limited or no data plans with a mobile operator. Through the Facebook application on the SIM card people can:Â Update their status and view comments on it;Â write on their friends wall; receive notifications; find friends on their SIM phonebook.

Comparing the last year’s stat with 2009 we found out that there is a 79% change when it comes to total number of minutes spend on Facebook. Wow, that is a good number of change. Have a look at the image below.
Facebook statistics are growing every day. When we compare it on yearly basis we find out a big % change in all most everything. Total unique visitors are increased, average daily visitors are also increased. Well, more and more people are joining Facebook and being social.
With the recent incident of Egypt getting free from Mubarak, I guess more people want to get into Facebook era and share their likes . I am sure when next year we will compare the stats, Facebook will still be growing and happy!
This comparison was made by comScore. According to them Facebook visitors in the 35-54 years old age group actually dropped by 3.6 percentage points in 2010, but Facebook saw gains in the percentage of visits from the under-18 crowd and those 55 and older. What could be the reason ?
Just when Egypt’s Mubarak resigned, Facebook and twitter was all flooded with status messages about Egypt, Facebook and Ghonim.

Finally the day arrived, Mubarak resigned and people are rejoicing all over Egypt. Wael Ghonim praises Facebook’s Zuckerberg for enabling the ousting of  Egypt’s Mubarak.
He says,
I want to meet Mark Zuckerberg some day and thank him personally.
Well, this is what I call the power of social media. I wont say that it wouldn’t have been possible without Facebook, but the movement definitely gained momentum because of  social media.
He is telling people that he won’t be giving any interviews instead he will use Facebook for everything. Wow, Mark Zuckerberg would be feeling a sense of pride being in this revolution. Though he wasn’t directly into it, but it was his Facebook, right ? 🙂

Facebook pages got a makeover today ! Today in the morning when I logged into my account and thought of checking my Facebook page, I was prompted a Facebook page upgrade.
What’s New in Facebook Page ?
Showcase your Latest photo : The most recent photos that are posted to the wall or tagged are displayed on the upper hand side of your Facebook page. If you choose to hide any just click on ‘X’ .
Navigation is shifted to Left : Just like Facebook profiles, the navigation is shifted to left here. It’s no more on the right hand side of the Facebook Page.
Show the top post on the wall: You are provided by two wall filters to choose from. You can either show posts by your page or the top posts by everyone. For editing these settings just click on edit settings that is provided to you.
Use Facebook as your Page : Well this is my favorite one. Now, I can get to know when my Facebook Page’s fan interact on a post, comment or just like one. So I can get notifications of it all which will make managing much easier! 🙂

How to Upgrade your Facebook Page ?
Just click on ‘Upgrade this Page’ as in the image below.
This new profile will be made mandatory to everyone till March 10. Before that we can choose to upgrade or just preview our pages. Its like the Facebook new profile, some people kind of love it and others hate. But, the bottom of it all is, that it is mandatory for all and once turned into a new Facebook page you can’t go back.

Mark Zuckerberg, the most loved man of 2010 , founder of Facebook, has obtained a restraining order against an Indian-origin man who has been sending him creepy messages through the social networking site and well threatening his safety. 🙂 Wow, so now he has a fan following and threats! 😛
According to Mr Zuck, this man Pradeep Manukonda, has been trying to get in touch with him by following or leaving texts that are kind of threatening ! Facebook security also tried to stop Pradeep at Mark’s home on January 24 just as he was about to walk up the front steps.

The judge has ordered Pradeep to stay at least 300 yards away from Mark, his sister and his girlfriend. A hearing at court is pending, later this month. Whoa! What a stalker. So, Facebook owner gets a stalker, funny and scary at the same time. Funny because the person who started online stalking is being stalked and scary, because stalking is kind of scary. Come on !
