LG Nexus 4 Launched in India: Should you buy one?

LG’s Nexus 4 has been awaited for a long time to come. It finally showed up a couple of days ago on Flipkart for pre-order but the launch was not officially confirmed. LG has confirmed declaring the phone is being launched in India at the price tag of Rs. 25,999. The phone will be available at select retail stores of LG and multi-brand retailers. It is already available for pre-order with online vendors.

The phone will ship with 4.7 inch screen, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Processor, the resolution supported is 1280 X 786 pixel. The runs on stock Android 4.2.2. The phone will ship with a 8MP camera with the front-facing camera being 1.3MP HD.

So should you buy a Nexus 4 phone?

Firstly, the phone gives its users the pure Android experience. This means the manufacturer does not put their own software on it. That is one of the biggest selling points of a Nexus phone.

Secondly, the phone is priced very reasonably. Most high-end smartphones are priced over Rs. 30,000. The Samsung Galaxys S4 (though much more powerful than Nexus 4) is priced at Rs. 41,500. So the price tag of Rs. 25,999 seems attractive.

Finally, your phone will get the latest Android updates available straight away. You will not be dependent on the manufacturer getting the updates through to your phone. For instance if tomorrow Android 4.3 is released, it will be available for your phone immediately.

The one issue I find with Nexus 4 is its glass back cover protecting the battery. This tends to make it fragile. The best way to avoid it is to buy a cover for your phone.

Google’s Nexus 4 launch seems imminent in India

Google’s Nexus 4 mobile phone device was launched almost 4 months ago in the US but as yet there is no real news for a India launch. But that might change very soon and Nexus 4 availability (officially)seem imminent in India. The landing page for Nexus 4 on Google, shows India added in the list of countries it should be available.

Why the launch is imminent?

  • Nexus 4’s launch in India was being held up probably to wait for the announcement of LG’s Optimus G. As LG also manufactures Nexus 4, it probably did not want Nexus 4 to overshadow the Optimus G.
  • Pricing issues are also a bit of a stumbling block. LG’s Optimus G goes for around Rs. 31,000. Nexus 4 goes for $299 for the 8 GB mobel. That is approximately Rs. 16,000. If Nexus 4 is released in India, expect it to be priced around the Optimus G price range.
  • With Samsung Galaxy S IV unveiling only days away, it might give LG a nice buzz around March 15 in India, to crash Samsung’s party, atleast in India.

India needs a Nexus Phone!

India is fast turning over from being a country that loved its Blackberry and Nokia to a country that has safely adopted the Android platform. Android phones are outselling other phones in the smart-phone market but it is still a country does not have a Nexus phone available officially. The stock Android experience is something, Google should make easily available than it is in India at the moment.

LG Nexus 4 to be available in India by November

Yesterday Google made the Nexus 4 phone official in a blog post. LG is manufacturing the Nexus 4 phone. It will be initially available on 13th November in U.S, U.K, Australia, France, Germany, Canada and Spain.

Asus has already confirmed the Nexus 7 being available in India possibly in the month of November. LG India officials have reportedly confirmed that the new phone Nexus 4 will also be made available in India by November end.

The phone is priced very competitively at $299 for its 8GB unlocked version. Even with duties and taxes, LG could price it in India for around Rs. 20,000 and it will be a very competitive price for such a powerful phone with the latest stock Android version on it.

Why LG Nexus 4 in India is very likely?

Samsung last year had let down a lot of Android users who expected it to roll out Galaxy Nexus in India. Unfortunately Samsung shelved any plans for a Nexus phone in India (if there were any in the first place) possibly to not have it clash with its Galaxy S3 launch.

LG itself does not have a phone that sells as well as Galaxy S3 in India. So it makes sense for LG to roll out a very competitive and in-demand phone in India.
