Me and My Social (Networking) Life [TDIS]

I use social networking sites like almost anyone else. But slowly I’ve come to realise how much it has changed me as a person.

I can no longer talk about my feelings to anyone. It is my profile status. I actually revel in the joy of the number of comments I get for each status update. And I am depressed when no one cares about my state of mind.

Why is it necessary to announce to the whole world that I had dinner at a long lost relative’s place yesterday? I complain about this, yet I find myself asking whether my friend enjoyed the dinner.

If I am depressed, I want everyone to know. Everyone consoles me and asks what happened. I pour my heart out into another status update.

It is easier for me to message a friend Happy Birthday or write on her/his wall. Just for being so impersonal, I get my thank you as a status update on her/his behalf – ‘So and so: Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.’ Of course, if that is how much you care about me, this is how much I care about you.

A friend of someone I know passes away. His status update reads: ‘Still in shock. May your soul rest in peace.’

I gauge my popularity by the number of photographs and notes I am tagged in. It matters more when someone comments about me in the photograph. It hurts me when I haven’t been mentioned.

I hate what it has done to me. I have lost feeling and emotion for people. I cannot look anyone in the eye and tell them about my feelings. I find it so much easier to write in on their wall.

The point is, social networking sites have made my life most impersonal and inhuman. I feel like I am connected to the world only by means of these. I feel like I don’t have a life beyond it. But what I don’t realise is that I have destroyed all of my life beyond this. It is only my doing. I didn’t know where to stop. I went on ahead, wearing my emotions, not on my sleeve, but on my profile status. Everyone knows what’s happening in my life, and no one cares.

I want to give it up. I want to maintain relations with only people who matter. I don’t want to make new friends online. I want to make real friends out in the real world. I want to expand my network by being myself. I want to meet new people through me. I want to be the reason for my happiness and unhappiness. I don’t want to credit the same to some website online.

Ironically, I am complaining about the internet to the internet. I really am trapped in this world wide web. Can’t live with it, can’t live without it…

Facebook Rewards for Inviting Your Friends!

These days, many new social networks are getting desperate to increase their registered user-base. They encourage their existing users to invite their friends to join that network by running a sort of points or rewards system. Some of them even offer cash rewards.

Now I recently noticed that worlds top social network Facebook is also encouraging existing users to invite their friends. Of course, there is no cash rewards of any kind for it. They just display a “thank you” note on your Facebook home page once you invite enough number of users. I do not know exact number of invite you need to send but its seems well above one hundred.

Please note the difference. You have to invite them via using email addresses. If you go on adding existing users by visiting their profiles your Facebook account may get disabled.

Also it is not about number of invites but number of people accepting your invitation.

Analyze Tweets of any Twitter User using TweetStats!

As said on one of the previous post, there are tons of Twitter Apps flooding over the Internet every passing day, along with twitter users too, are getting multiplied everyday. Truly speaking, these days even I have developed some interests in sitting behind my computer screen and sending & receiving tweets.

The web-based Twitter application that fascinated me and forced writing about it is – TweetStats.Com. Once you land into the homepage, you simply need to enter any Twitter ID and TweetStats will then, automatically generate a detailed report about the tweeting style and trend of the user. For example – Tweeting time of the user, no. of tweets in a particular month, day, or week, etc.

It’s for sure that I must have tested this out first. So here is the TweetStats report of @Devils_Workshop.

Except just displaying the tweeting time and trend of a specified Twitter user, TweetStats also displays a Tweet Cloud as well that helps you analyze the tweeting trends of the user in detail. So, if you are a Twitter fan too, then just go and check out TweetStats.

Politics in India goes Hi-tech; Advani Starts Blogging & Tweeting!

Recently the blogosphere was filled with stories about advertisement of political parties in Google Adsense. You must be aware that some eminent politicians even started blogging these days.

But blogging and getting advertised on adsense are not all those promotional works being carried out by political parties. Recently a twitter account was created named @lkadvani and there were rumors that, LK Advani personally reads all the tweets sent to him and many of his followers even say that, this twitter account is not created by LK Advani, rather some of his supporting group look after the account. Even Obama uses a twitter account – @BarackObama so what I was wondering, is L K Advani getting inspiration from Barack Obama?

Advertising, Blogging & Tweeting are not the only ways in which Advani is campaigning, he is also using SMS and E-mail as a tool to attract more and more youths.

Looking this promotions by politicians in India, specially by LK Advani, all I can say is they are following footsteps of Barak Obama. What do you think?

Update: It seems some one created a fake twitter profile in the name of L K Advani. You can view its Google Cached Page here.
