Ignore All Future Event/Application Invites From a Friend on Facebook

Facebook is an interesting social-networking website but what makes it annoying is the useless notifications you get everyday about games and applications and some event requests. Earlier we told you a way of blocking a particular application so that you won’t get any request related to that application from any of your friends. But what if you still want to receive requests but not from a particular friend, well here’s the solution for you.

Blocking requests from a particular friend for an application:

For this go to your Apps and Games page from the sidebar of your Facebook homepage. Alternatively you can click the link below.

https://www.facebook.com/games

After that reject any request from a friend by clicking ‘Cross’ sign given with the accept button. Now to reject all the future requests from that friend click on “Ignore all requests from friends name?” on the same page as shown below.

Blocking requests from a particular friend for an event:

If you are getting so many event invitations than it’s a good idea to block those invites rather than removing that person from your friends list. To ignore all event invites go to your events page. Now first of all decline an event request and then click on the button given with the text ‘You Declined’. See the pic below.

After that click confirm to stop receiving future invites from that particular friend. That’s it, now you will stop getting useless invites and notifications.

Find Best Times to Schedule A Tweet for Most Exposure

A couple of days ago, I wrote about using Bufferapp to schedule your tweets automatically at pre-assigned timings. This allows users to not come across as spamming and also send tweets when they think their users are most likely to read them.

For example if I have a lot of followers living in India, it would be better to send out tweets during the daytime in India.

If you are looking for the best timings to get the highest amount of exposure to your twitter account then try out Tweriod.

Tweriod_analysis_twitter

  • Just sign up with Tweriod with your Twitter account and wait for a while as it prepares your report. You can then get your report via email or even a DM on Twitter.
  • The analysis is based on retweets and replies on your account. It shows the best timings during weekdays, Mondays, Sundays and also Weekends in general.
  • A good idea would be to use these timings on your Buffer account to get the best out of both services.
  • On the downside, analysis can be updated only once a month, but that is good enough as most users would want one month data to actually decently accurate best timings for scheduling tweets.

You can also read up on Timely which gives you best timings based on your last 199 tweets.

Do you schedule tweets? What are the strategies that your use? Do drop in your comments.

Automatically Schedule Tweets at Pre-Assigned Times

Buffer_logoI have used Twitter over the last couple of years. But recently I have become more regular on it. As a blogger I obviously read a lot of interesting stuff online, but I prefer to space my tweets so I do not come across as someone who is spamming.

Usually TweetDeck and HootSuite are good enough to schedule tweets but with these clients I have to select the timings individually.

Hence I really prefer using Bufferapp.

Set up Timings with Buffer

  • Create an account with Buffer and connect your Twitter account to Buffer.
  • Now say you want to post all your tweets in the evening from 6 pm to 8 pm simply select those timings on Buffer.

Buffer_Timings

  • I could also specific different patterns for different times of the day. For instance as I am less likely to check Twitter on Sundays, I made sure no tweets are scheduled for that day.
  • We can also add a Facebook account and have a Chrome extension to schedule posts quickly while browsing through articles.

You can read this article that help you set-up using Buffer while using Google Reader.

A quick reminder while using Buffer is that make sure you select the right time-zone so that tweets are scheduled properly. Buffer does not take your Twitter account’s timings into account.

I have found this a very useful tool to space out what I share on Twitter. I would recommend against scheduling links and tweets on trending topics which ideally should be tweeted out as soon as possible.

What are your views on scheduling Tweets and which tools do you use? Do drop in your comments.

Write in Strikethrough and Underlined text on Facebook [How-To]

We have another cool trick for all the Facebook lovers. This time we will tell you how you can update your Facebook status or even comment on other’s statuses with Underlined or Strikethrough text. Before this I want to clear one thing that writing a text in Strikethrough in MS Word and then copying and pasting it to Facebook won’t work as both texts have different encoding. Let’s see the simplest way of doing that.

Writing in Strikethrough/Underline:

To update a status or post a comment on Facebook in Strikethrough go to this website. This is a direct link to the tool which generates the Strikethrough Text. Write the text you want to convert to Strikethrough format in the box 1. and click generate. After that copy whatever text it shows in the box 2. and post it on Facebook. For Strikethrough select ‘Format Type’ as ‘Horizontal’ on the same page. For Underline select ‘Format Type’ as ‘Underline’.

Result:

Writing comments and updating statuses on Facebook in Strikethrough and underline is something new and trending. Don’t forget to give it a try. 😉

Update: You can also write this underlined or strikethrough text in Facebook Messages.

Will Timeline Apps Lead to Sharing Overload on Facebook!

Let me start with the fact that I am not really a fan of Facebook’s new Timeline layout. It definitely looks pretty but making it necessary for me to look up my share setting for all my posts over the past 3 years is very tedious. I am also not a big fan of the ticker in the sidebar either. The sidebar can be hidden but then I cannot see my friends who are online and available to chat.

facebook_apps_timeline

Facebook today has announced a host of Apps that can be added to your Timeline.  Apps from Goodreads, Rockmelt, Flixster, Yahoo News and several others have been accepted by Facebook to post on your Timeline. So next time if you read something on the Yahoo News App, it will be shared on your timeline.

See this video demo about App on your Facebook Timeline

Will Apps posting on Timeline lead to Sharing overload?

I think Facebook cannot be blamed as users will have to allow apps to post on their timelines. But it might be something users might find a little tricky to manage.

Apps are reducing the step of us listening to a song and sharing it with our friends on Facebook. They are making the process automatic. This might suit some people but not everyone. If I read 10 stories via Yahoo News App, I might want to share only one or two of those stories with my friends on Facebook.

If you want to approve Apps for your Facebook Timeline look up this link.

What are your views on Apps posting on your Timeline? Will it lead to an overload of sharing? Do drop in your comments.

Google+ Introduces Adding Funny Text to Photos

While Facebook has moved at a snail’s speed to roll out their new Timeline design across the world, Google+ has been quietly adding more features and integration to other Google products. I do not remember where I read this before, but it is said that the best social networks are the ones that allow users to waste time efficiently and have fun in the process.

Facebook does that with status updates, games and photo sharing features. Google+ actually has pretty much the same features as Facebook and it has been careful on online privacy.

Google+ now has a really cool feature. It allows people to add photos along with text within the image.

Gplus_Text_Image

How to Add Text in Google+ Image

  • When you upload an image on Google+ to share with your friends, it will show up a new option to add text.
  • Click on it and you will get the interface to write in text into the image as in the above image.
  • Click on save and share the image with your friends.

Note: Once this process is done, you cannot remove the text so be careful about typos. 🙂

I think Google+ is really putting together a lot of neat features. All of them seem to make that push for interactivity. For instance this new feature of inserting text into images to make posters could really begin a lot of photo memes on the internet.

What are your views? Do try it out and let me know through your comments.

Listen to Music Synchronously With Your Facebook Friends

Facebook has introduced a really cool new feature. It will allow Facebook friends to listen to synchronously played music. This is not just sharing but actually sharing the same song and listening to it at the same time.

This new feature will be rolled out over the next few days for all users. So if you have a friend who is online and listening to a song, you can see a music icon next to their profile photo.

Facebook_music_share

If you hover over that friend’s name in the chat list, a pop-up will show up. Click on ‘Listen with’ button to listen to the same music your friend is playing.

If multiple friends join the conversation, all of them can chat and discuss the song as it plays for everyone online.

As a lot of people like to listen to online music and check Facebook with their internet enabled smartphones, this could be a really catchy feature. Hopefully Facebook will make this feature bug free and easy to use.

I think we might see a similar feature for videos very soon, which might be an even better experience. Imagine watching a movie while sharing a conversation with your Facebook friends.

Would you find this feature interesting? Do drop in your comments.

Automatically Delete / Purge All Tweets from Your Twitter Account

When I created by first Twitter account, it was mainly used to follow other accounts. I ended up writing some tweets without much thought even though I had no followers. Sometime later I did manage to create another Twitter account which I use more prudently as I was using it professionally.

The first account I left alone, still using it to follow tech companies and services. But I had a lot of tweets which I would have preferred to delete for a fresh start. Only problem was that deleting 100s of tweets one by one was tedious.

Thankfully, SocialOomph a popular online service that allows a lot of automation options to your Twitter and Facebook accounts came up with an option to clean up your Twitter account of all its tweets.

Purge_All_Tweets_Twitter

How to Purge All Tweets from Twitter

  • First, create an account on SocialOomph.com if you do not have one. It is free. 🙂
  • Then link your Twitter account to your SocialOomph account and look up options under Scheduled Updates.
  • There will be an option to ‘Purge Twitter Tweets’. Click on it and wait as all your tweets get purged.
  • Once all tweets are deleted, an email is sent as an alert.

So if you are looking for a fresh start for your Twitter account, use this method to clean up all your Tweets.
