Online text converter tool for HTML, Word and Text

Many bloggers who might not be very adept as knowing a lot about HTML might have a problem with copy-pasting content on a website from a Word Document. As Editor at DW, I have often had to use some online text converter or the other. With ToolsGeek I found an online service which can be used to convert text to HTML and backwards in seconds.

Features of Tools Geek Text converter

  • Requires no sign-up and we can just paste the text into the large text box.
  • The buttons are pretty self-explanatory about how to go ahead and cleanup or convert the text.
  • What I like is that it allowed me to convert from Word to HTML and even convert HTML to TXT. There are other minor features too like word count, changing all text to upper and lower case.

I had previously written about a similar tool but that only worked to clean up Word content when copied into HTML Editors. This one works with a lot of different types of text.

Do look it up and drop in your comments about your views and also if you know of similar tools which you find useful.

Select default Text style in Gmail to enhance your Email

Gmail is one of the widely used Email application and it’s one of my favorite. Though one thing which I never liked about it its default font and text style. I personally reformat it every time to Verdana font style to make it look better. Though it’s my personal choice. I always wanted a feature in Gmail which will help me to select default font style, so that I don’t have to manually select it all the time.

Gmail introduced this new feature in which you can select default font style and text style while compiling any email. You can change the setting under Setting tab.

I’m sure those who are loved of Gmail like me will like this new feature. Have you changed your default font settings or you still using the same default font and text style?

Take notes and store them online

Often when I work online, I need to store some text or write down notes. Sometimes I have a random idea and need to put down some words so I can look them up later and work on a concept.

What I do is write down notes on a Notepad and save the file on my desktop. As I work from different computers, I end up using Dropbox to make the file available on two different computers. This led me to try and look up for a notepad which can be used online and Simple Text does just that.

Simple Text

  • All I needed to do was visit Simple Text website.
  • Sign in with my Google account.
  • Start typing and creating new notes. This note could be saved and accessed using my Google id.
  • Simple Text being available online obviously makes it cross-platform. I find it a great help while writing points while writing a post and then storing them online.

Application Support

Simple Text does work with an Write Room for i-Phone application. Being open source, I think there should be more applications available across various platforms that support Simple Text. Some might say a notepad is not that important or even relevant. But I disagree here. Notepad applications are still relevant especially as a blogger I often feel the need to save or write down a few notes which I can refer to later.

If you are looking to save notes online, try using Simple Text and let me know your opinions through your comments. 🙂

Send encrypted messages with Norbt

Norbt is a web tool great for protecting text on the web. It basically encrypts and allows you to store text online which cannot be accessed by web crawlers. That is where the web-tool gets its name Norbt which stands for No Robot. 🙂

Norbt is a perfect tool for any one to give out email address on the web without worrying about crawlers picking it up and sending you spam. Norbt has in a way has mixed encryption with the concepts of reCaptcha.

Why use Norbt?

  • This is ideal if you do not want to send certain text over email or allow everyone to read it on a website. Just encrypt it with a question. The answer makes the text appear. 😉
  • If you want people to reach you on email but avoid web crawlers to copy your email id and hit you with spam. Just make the email address appear to people who can type the correct answer.
  • Playing riddles is also a lot of fun with Norbt. Make friends solve a riddle and if they get it right, desired text appears.

How to use Norbt?

Just visit the Norbt website and start creating norbts. This will give you a URL on which the question and text is stored on. Answer the question correctly and the text is shown.

You can access the norbt show in above image at https://norbt.com/Z6CE46

Another thing about creating norbts is that it does not require anyone to register to their website. What do you think about Norbt? Do you think this could be a fun but useful way to encrypt text online? Let me know through your comments.

Send Free Unlimited SMS to USA and Canada

WorldTexting.com is a new site that claims to allow users to send free SMS’s worldwide. However this service works currently only in USA, Canada, Caribbean, Alaska, PR, Hawaii. They allow text messages of 130-160 character length without any ads , unlike traditional free SMS providers. They also provide a facility to send and receive the messages online, just like you would do on your mobile phone. There is no daily limit for sending messages, however you may send only 1 SMS at a time, no group messages.

So Whats in it for Us?

Users based in USA and Canada can send free SMS to each other without incurring the heavy bill of texting in these times of economic depression.

As for us Indians, well many of our relatives do live in USA and Canada, at least my do. With this service you may send free SMS to them and receive replies also online. Totally free.

Does it Really Work World-wide?

I tried sending messages to my mobile in India. However after repeatedly  sending messages, I could not receive a message. Although the service claims that it can work world-wide, their FAQ states that:

worldtexting.com works mainly in USA, Canada, Caribbean, Alaska, PR, Hawaii. We have now started to add few other countries and keep growing all of this for free as well.

Hmm… Would be better if it started working more sooner in these parts of the world.
