Timely.is – Schedule your Tweets for Maximum Impact

Twitter has become a great tool to promote or spread a particular startup, a blog article or a web business in general. To make your tweets reach out to more people, a new web app called Timely.is helps you to schedule and post your tweets at an optimum time.

What is Timely.is?

Timely.is is a new web app developed by the startup Flowtown Inc., which can be used to schedule your tweets for later. It works on an algorithm, which finds out the time of maximum impact at which your tweet will be read by the most number of users.

As seen below, I simply entered my Twitter username, and Timely suggested 4 time frames, in which I could reach out to the most users.

How Does Timely.is work?

Timely.is analyses 199 of your previous tweets, and calculates optimum time frames using their algorithm.

  • To get started with Timely, you have to sign-up and authorize Timely with your Twitter account. You will then be able to schedule tweets as shown above (Click to enlarge).
  • By clicking on Add to Queue, your tweets get added to a list of tweets each of which will be posted at the time of most impact. You can check the statistics of your tweets as well.
  • If it is an urgent tweet, you can click on Post within 30 minutes, so that Timely will choose the best time in the next 30 minutes.

Since this is a fairly new web app, the accuracy of Timely’s algorithm is not certain. Do give me your feedback about this newly launched web-app through your comments 🙂

TweetPsych – Get your psychological profile form your tweets!

People use Twitter for various reasons. Some people use it to comment or share funny jokes or catch up on the trends around the world. Some people tweet a million links a day to spam the timeline of their followers in the name of marketing. I have always wondered, if how you use Twitter indicated the type of person you are? Obviously this is not an exact science at all but TweetPsych, gives some interesting analysis of your psyche, based on what you tweet.

Just visit the website and type in the username of any open Twitter account. Within seconds TweetPsych creates a report which gives a lot of interesting information on what you really tweet about. For example it when I checked out my psychological profile based on my Twitter account, it indicated I tend to share a lot of things which are about the media, learning, positivity and thinking as you can see in the image below.

It also shows that I do not tweet about money, social and even about the past.

I think being a blogger I should be more social through my tweets. It had never occurred to me that I might have been a little to focused on Twitter and might not be sharing much. TweetPsych can give you pointers in this way about what to expect form an account that you follow.

Do try out TweetPsych and let me know if they have read your twitter account correctly? Do drop in your comments.

[HowTo] Get Foursquare Username of Your Choice

If you have joined Foursquare, and wondering how to replace that random number in your profile URL, this article can help you out.

By default, when you join Foursquare you get a profile URL like this – http://foursquare.com/user/1466683

How to change it to something like this ? – http://foursquare.com/rahul286 😉

Its very simple actually. Go to the Foursquare Settings page and scroll down to find “Linked Accounts” section.

Next, link your Twitter account with your Foursquare account and your Foursquare username will be set equal to Twitter username. (see screenshot below)

This may sound a bit weird but this is the only way out. If you do not have a twitter account, you will need to create one in order to get a foursquare username!

Also, be careful as you cannot change your Foursquare username, even if you change the linked twitter account later-on! 😉

InboxCleaner – Clean your Twitter Inbox messages in bulk

One of the most active social networks along with Facebook is Twitter. Twitter usually helps us really share and comment on interesting topics with our friends, followers, celebrities and even complete strangers. One very useful feature of Twitter is the Direct Message. This way if two people are mutually following each other on Twitter, they can send each other a message which is private. This is something like email.

While I find it very useful to exchange messages once in a while on Twitter, I have quickly piled up a few messages on my Twitter account. Deleting them all is quite troublesome as there is no feature on Twitter which allows me to delete messages in bulk.

InboxCleaner is a great online tool which helps delete messages quickly and also keep your Twitter profile clean. 🙂

Just visit the InboxCleaner and login with your Twitter details. This takes us to a page with three options to delete messages. I could simply choose to Delete messages from a particular user or by content. In case you are not too picky a good option is to simply delete all messages.

I wish Twitter had this feature integrated within its website but I guess until then InboxCleaner is the best option.

Twitter refused Facebook’s Friend Request in 2008

Have you ever thought that two giant Social media companies like Facebook and twitter were going to be business partners some day ? Well, yes Facebook tried to buy Twitter in 2008 and failed.

According to the Financial Times, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg offered 500 million dollars in Facebook stock for Twitter. I wonder what would have happened if Twitter would have accepted the offer?

What if Facebook have bought Twitter?

  • Twitter would have all blue background like the one Facebook has.
  • Facebook status updates and chat would have been like a twitter scroll.
  • There would have been a sent and received status comments and updates. 🙂
  • People would get the choice of following someone’s ‘every’ activity.
  • Everyday there would be trends to follow on Facebook too. All though there are many trending topics on Facebook but they are not very frequent.

These and many more, would have been a normal thing. Well, thank God it didn’t happen. 🙂 We do enjoy Facebook and Twitter as it is. Did you know that Twitter was offered $2.5 billion from Google? (source) 🙂 Twitter is becoming a favorite these days, after Facebook off course. But, I don’t think they are ready for a merger yet!

What else do you think would have been different or changed? Do share your views with me through the comments below?

Search for images on Twitter with Hashalbum

We all have our own sources for those unique photos. We don’t want the same old Google Image Search image results because we beg to differ. For those looking for a new source of images, Hashalbum would make you tick. This is a photo search tool which looks for relevant images within Twitter.

Mostly we assign the hash symbol (#) to a word on Twitter to actually reach out beyond the scope of just our followers. So obviously someone adding a hash is looking to share images with the world.

It’s quite simple in terms of functionality. When a Twitter user uploads an album on third-party sites such as Twitpic, yfrog, etc – and tweets it with the standard name format using a hashtag (#) – lets say ‘Check out pics of my cute #doberman’, Hashalbum will popup these photographs the next time someone looks for pictures of ‘dobermans’ at Hashalbum search panel (my dog is a doberman, therefore the special mention). 😛

The application was created by a team of four from a company named Londonberry. I think it is a very useful tool permitting users to search for specific images on Twitter. It replaces the need of going to other sites for image search if one is already comfortable with Twitter.

I quite like the idea behind Hashalbum which makes image search on Twitter easy and quick.

Check Heatmap of Twitter traffic density in realtime

Twitter has become the world’s most used micro blogging platorm today and the number of people using twitter is phenomenal. To demonstrate the real-time frequency of tweets, Carlo Zapponi and Andreas Markdalen came up with an incredible idea that puts all the tweets on the map, literally !

worldoftweets

The above screen shot is the actual visualization of the tweet-frequency from around the world. The red color you see in some areas, increases with the increase in the tweets from that particular region. They call it the heat-map.

I had this website running continuously for 2 hr 17m which produced such a massive result of tweets as evident from the screenshot. When you visit the website yourself, the visualization will begin with a clean slate and will start to fill up gradually as time progresses.

There are 2 visualization options: the satellite view and the map view. You will find some mind boggling statistics at the bottom of the visualization.

Try it yourself :

  • Open “A world of tweets”.
  • Login to Twitter.
  • Tweet anything you like.
  • Switch to the “A world of tweets” tab as fast as possible, by using Ctrl+Shift+Tab OR Ctrl+Tab if you are using Google Chrome.
  • If you can see instantly that a tweet got processed from your country, then it was you!

Do try it out and let me know through your comments.

Google offered to buy Twitter for $2.5-$4 Billion

According to Yahoo Finance, Google made an offer to Twitter for about $2.5 billion. Twitter I guess did not like it much and decided against it. Well this makes sense as Google can manage to make money out of Twitter and its search facility. Bing which is a Microsoft product has tied up with Facebook to create something called ‘Social Search‘.

Apart from the initial hype over it, I have not met anyone who has really found Social Search all that useful.

Microsoft too is interested!

There are also reports the Twitter was made an another offer for about $4 billion. That might mean, Microsoft might be offering them. Twitter against decided against it. I guess Microsoft wants to make sure Google does not own Twitter and vice-versa.

Well if I do let my imagination run riot and think that Google made it’s decision to buy Twitter based on our post, Twitter should thank us for starting off a bidding frenzy for them. 😉

Jokes apart I do feel that at some point of time Twitter will be acquired unless its current owners manage to monetize and bring in a profit with Twitter. What are your views? Will Google manage to acquire Twitter?
